Paresemmer

The village of Paresemmer is one of the oldest Swithick communities in the Mill Lands and has stood on the edge of the Bayreshanke Forest for nearly a thousand years. The Woodland Folk (as those who live by the forest’s edge are known as), treat the Bayreshanke with a mixture of fear and respect, knowing not to stray too far into the depths of the old and mysterious wood. They farm the rich and fertile lands on the forest’s border, fish its rivers where large salmon are abundant and most of all, they keep the large pigs that the village is famed for across the rest of the Mill Lands (Parsemmer ham is a prized delicacy in Pelonastra). The pigs forage deeper into the forest than any human dare go, but instinctively know to return to the village.   Observant visitors have sometimes noticed that there is more to these creatures than meets the eye, and Mordei Morhannan, wandering sage and commentator on the Mill Lands once concluded that they were in some ways more intelligent than their owners. He could not have known the reason why. Deep in the Bayreshanke, enchanted waters flow from a deep pool known as the Laurig, where secrets dating back to the Sundering itself are hidden. The waters have changed most living things in secret, subtle ways within the forest and the pigs that forage there are no different.   The Woodland Folk are an invaluable source of intelligence for the Honourable Company of Trailkeepers, the staff wielding knights that have been tasked with the policing and defence of the northern Mill Lands, along with their comrades in the Northern Border Horse. Parsemmer is a quiet and collection of small stone built houses where one can hear the clink of metal on metal at the smithy and the sound of livestock, but little else. The insular folk are wary of strangers and adventuring fools looking to risk their lives in the deep dark forest, but they also see who passes through the region and give aid to the Trailkeepers when they can.
