Del Marah and the Vire

Once, the Del'Marahan empire strectched to the frozen shores of the Kuric Sea, encompasing what were referred to as the 'rebel provinces' or 'Vyarah' (a derogatory term to describe degenerate bandits). Successive wars against brutal Del'Marahan domination six hundred years ago liberated the region, now collectively known as the Vire and a longstanding antagonism has existed between both nations. The Del'Marahans look at the lawlessness and chaos on their borders with dread, and see the Vire as a haven for their own criminals and malcontents. The folk of the Vire, who have relatively peaceful and decentralised communities see the periodic Del'Marahan invasions as evidence that their historic enemy has not yet understood that the icy wastes of their land cannot be conquered. When the Virefolk lead raiding parties into Del'Marah during periods of dearth and hunger, the Del'Marahi (emperor) often responds by sending a punitive expedition to the Vire in order to 'pacify' it.
