When you use this spell to cover a solid surface with slippery grease, the 10-foot squares must form a continuous area, each part of which must be within the spell's range. When you use this spell to create a greasy coating on items, no two of the targeted items can be more than 30 feet apart. You cannot target both items and surfaces with a single casting of this spell.
A grease spell covers a solid surface with a layer of slippery grease. Any creature in the area when the spell is cast must make a successful Reflex Save or fall. This save is repeated on your turn each round that the creature remains within the area. A creature can walk within or through the area of grease at half normal speed with a DC 10 Acrobatics check. Failure means it can’t move that round (and must then make a Reflex Save or fall), while failure by 5 or more means it falls (see the Acrobatics skill for details).
Creatures whose space is greater than one square who are only partially within the grease effect when it is cast gain a +5 bonus to their Reflex Save if at least half of their squares are within the effect, and a +10 if less than half of them are within it. Creatures with a space larger than 15 ft (larger than huge) automatically succeed on their Reflex Save.
Similarly, larger creatures not wholly within the grease have an easier time moving through it. The Acrobatics check needed for a creature is reduced by 5 if their entire space is not within the grease, and they do not need to make an Acrobatics check or move at reduced speed unless at least half of their squares are in the grease at some point during their movement.
The spell can also be used to create a greasy coating on items. Material objects not in use are always affected by this spell, while an object wielded or employed by a creature receives a Reflex Save to avoid the effect. If the initial save fails, the creature immediately drops the item. A saving throw must be made in each round that the creature attempts to pick up or use the greased item. A creature wearing greased armor or clothing gains a +10 Circumstance Bonus on Escape Artist checks and on Grapple checks made to resist or escape a Grapple or pin.
