Draska Plague

Believed to be divine retribution for turning from their pacifist traditions towards a warrior heart, the Draska Plague destroyed the entire adult population of Aurora.

While not everyone got the plague, enough did that the cascade effect from Draska Bonding killed the rest.

Only a few children survived. Considered cursed, they were scattered throughout the kingdom, ending the race of the Draska.

Later, two survivors would emerge, but their attempts to rebuild the Draska race ended when Trillia came to power in Summerstown.

Treatment

None was found.

Prognosis

The plague struck fast and aggressively. It is unknown if a cure could have been developed. Fatality reached 100%.

It was initially believed that only the warriors would be struck, but the plague continued throughout the entire Draska race.

Aside from the children, only 2 adults survived. They were in a state of stasis at the time of the plague and isolated from all outside contact. The plague had died out before they awoke and never touched them.

Ironically, by the nature of their survival, both Elainya and Drenil were subsequently blamed for the plague. There is some validity to this theory.

Epidemiology

During a battle with the Dragon's forces, the Draska warriors all began to show signs of injury. These first signs were thought to have occured during the battle. Only later when the signs appeared in Aurora did healers begin to suspect that they were the first symptoms of the plague rather than battle wounds.

Claw Marks - fiery scratches extending across the torso of an infected person - are the first sign of infection, usually in clusters of three, appearing as if the person had been clawed by a dragon.

Within a few hours, the victim's strength begins to wane. Fever and infection follow, with new marks appearing on the extremities over time.

The longest known case lasted two weeks and was one of the first struck by the plague. Later considered to be the infection point, the battle wounded were taken to Aurora for healing. As no illness was suspected initially, healers convened as the wounds rejected any attempts at healing. Only later did they realize that the healers had then spread the infection throughout the town.

Some of the Draska posted throughout the kingdom were recalled and became infected upon their return home. Those who did not return also died, giving the plague its rumored divine interpretation.
