Marry Me, Sunrise

Maran proposes marriage to her while the two are out on a small lake boat together, alone with that last bottle of sweet wine she had gifted him.   Eve cups the back of his head and kisses him, softly.   Then, she says, “I like the sound, but we’ve got time, I think? It’s only been six years.”   “Mmmm, I’d say so,” Maran agrees, head following her lips as they part.   “Let’s say we,” she kisses him again. “Revisit this conversation in fifty?”   “Yes, ma’am," he consents, voice strained. He's hurt, but he knows his attention comes with a time limit.   “That isn’t a no, by the way.”   “Oh. No?”   “I only wanna wait before we make good on it. Ok?”   “Oh.” He muses, “Then I’ll call you my fiancée, in the interim?”   “And I, you.” She smiles gently and challenges, “In the interim, I’ll try to get you to fall more than in inspiration with me.” “Mmmmm?” Maran prompts, confused. “What else is there?”   “Love.”   “What’s the difference?”   “I dunno, I’m not you,” Eve says, letting her hand drop from his hair to caress his downy jaw. “Let me know when love happens, Captain. You tell me what the difference is.”   Stunned, he shares: “With a spirit like a purple dawn and a smile to match, eyes like two glittering stars at sunset, and skin like the black of night with the light of the sun to thank… That you, Babi, have deemed me worthy of your affection is a marvel. That is to say, I will endeavor to make your goal easy, you beautiful Sunrise.”   Eve accidentally knocks them both overboard in the next moment.
