Marka

Importance in Mnorh Culture

A copper infused flint that can easily be used to create sparks. While green sparks from this material do start the occasional fire, there isn't much vegetation to burn and houses are built from stone with areas excavated underground.

The Tilgish use them to light up the night. They gather the flint bits, carefully lining them up along a path that has shards of reflective glass embedded in the walls. Then the pairs of guards on watch for the night will push a thin mill stone wheel on a rod along that path and smashe the Marka to cause sparks. The flashes reflect into homes with walls covered in the glass shards to provide needed light for the evening and scare off the stinging centipedes   Over the milenia, Tilgish eyes have adapted to bright flashes in the dark and don't need time to recover. Considering the safety the material provides, no Tilgish would be comfortable with out the green light at night. Some even choose to go to sleep with their eyes open.

This material is used on the Tilgish Annual Blessing for One's Birth. These flint chips are smashed together to make green sparks in the darkness as they dance and sing.
