Veiled One

The Veiled Ones, also known as Archmages or, within their context, simply as Council members, are the members of The Veil. They are regarded as the most powerful arcanists of Einya—and with good reason, given that arcane skill is the only requirement.

Appointment

Veiled Ones are chosen by current members of the Veil. There is no application process or election—if you're skilled enough, the Veil will notice you and possibly invite you. Candidates are expected to accept, as the reputation of a Veiled One transcends borders and invitations are only sent with a unanimous agreement.   Once appointed, the new Council member will keep their title for the rest of their life. There are only two occasions in which someone can lose their title:
  • If the Council votes by absolute majority to remove them.
  • If the Council member decides to leave it. Even though this is rare, that have been historically some examples of this.
  • Rights and responsabilities

Veiled Ones are considered to be citizens of all Schools for all intents and purposes, even if one of these citizenships conflicts with another (for example, someone from a country that doesn't allow double citizenship). This means that they can enter the School's domains without any special permits and can live and work within their borders. Additionally, they can also sit in any School's council, although they aren't able to participate in council votes.   They are also considered the supreme arcane authority. Any matters that concern the arcane arts are subject to be overseed by a Veiled One if the Veil so chooses. However, because most countries only recognize the authority of the Schools over arcane matters, this can be a fine line to walk sometimes. Regardless, all Veiled Ones are expected to protect the people of the world from arcane dangers.

I'm definitely curious about the Veiled Ones that walked away from the title and why, but overall this concept seems really cool - a council of powerful arcanists tasks with protesting the world from arcane threats? That's pretty cool!

This is a cool title. But are they really a protective force for the world or do they mostly care about protecting their positions, against anyone else? If this is a mixed bag, is that why some members left?
