Worldember 2020 - It's pledge time!

WorldEmber Update 4 - 2020-12-31:
It's all over!

I did it! It was kinda stressful, but I am so happy to have reached my 10k words. Stormbril's WorldEmber 2020 pledge is now complete! I am particularly happy with Danger-Tourism, and Yuai Do, just having those completed makes me feel like a World Ember winner :D Give em a look down below if you haven't seen them yet!
Danger-Tourism
Profession | May 9, 2022

A tourism industry born from the excess of danger found throughout Cathedris.

Floodcrop
Species | May 9, 2022

An amphibious crop specific to and providing food for Hansun's most unique city, Malun-Chaujun.

The Underwater Silos of the Shattered Isles
Building / Landmark | Sep 1, 2022

A secret facility for Ichor storage and experimentation, deep under water, controlled and run by the Legion.

Yuai Do

A graceful combat art of patience, deflection, and opportune strikes. Its poses are studied from the swaying movements of the God-husk, Miyu.

Deep Ocean Emerald Egg Sacs
Species | May 9, 2022

Mysterious emerald coloured egg sacs from the deepest parts of the ocean that kill all who attempt to open them.

For anyone still writing in these last few hours -- YOU'VE GOT THIS, YOU CAN DO IT! For everyone who's resting and finished now -- CONGRATULATIONS YOU DID AMAZING!
WorldEmber Update 2 - 2020-12-29:
Wait, what?!
There's only 2 days left?? Already!?! Eep.   I had a super crazy busy December with final exams and moving, and it all ended up taking way too long. Still, I managed to finish two articles so far! One at the beginning of the month, and one today. That puts me just under 5k words -- almost halfway there! I know I can do it, only a few more articles to go. If you haven't seen them, maybe take a look at the two I've done so far, I'm quite happy with both :D
Malun-Chaujun, the Tide of Hansun
Settlement | Apr 17, 2024

The Chau were traditionally a migratory people -- but eventually, they settled near the river Honnun, which goes through incredible flooding seasons. Thus the Chau are a people of two cities -- Malun, and Chaujun.

Avartarian
Character | Dec 20, 2022

The dead god of Victory, locked in an endless war against his own body

Avartarian will need an art refresh after WorldEmber, where I'll go through and add shading and highlights still.
WorldEmber Update 1 - 2020-11-30:
Worldember has begun!
And the energy is infectious! I may not have time for writing in these early weeks, but I'm certainly brainstorming some fun ideas. I'm really feeling a settlement article, probably going to be working on a place called 'Malun-Chaujun, the Tide of Hansun' once I get time! It's a location I'm fascinated with worldbuilding, where due to seasonal flooding, the town has become one of dualities. They have a winter village they stay in while the river waters are low, and then a summer village they stay in during the flooding period. There's all sorts of fun things related to that too! Like how do they view property ownership? What sort of neat seasonal agriculture do they have? What is the actual architecture of the buildings like? I also hope to work some neat CSS into it too >:D   I hope you're as excited about it as I am! Also, I hope your worldember is going fantastically so far :D Good luck everyone!
Original WorldEmber pledge below:
So you might have noticed, but I've been uhhh... sort of away, not worldbuilding lately :( I'm hoping to change that with World Ember!! November is the busiest month for me with University, and I'll have finals and papers due in the first week or two of December, so that really limits my time unfortunately. However, that still leaves some time after all that to get at the minimum, 10k words in :D   So...
I hereby pledge that during December, 2020, I will write a minimum of 10,000 words, including one God-husk article.
— Me, Stormbril :D
      Phew.

So, what am I gonna work on?

Just recently I did a good ol CSS refresh across Cathedris, so I'm feeling good about that. The CSS refresh was actually step 1 of a multi-step plan I had made after Summer camp, before the dreaded combo of burnout + a heavy school load took me out. I think at the very least, I'll look towards that plan for things to continue with!

Plans from Before

Rak'tos [God-husk]
This is one of the last creative things I did for Cathedris! I drew Rak'tos on stream back in August. I was really happy with how she turned out, and now she needs an article! Worldember 2019 is where I 'debuted' Cathedris, along with 3 other God-husk articles ( Sharenskus, Dimiti, and Miyu), so it's only fitting I do another.
The Comprilith [Location/building]
Referenced in nearly every God-husk article and some other ones as well, it's an incredibly important building in Cathedris. It's guarded by Rak'tos (and T'kalia), so it's even related to other articles I might want to do! If I have time, I might also do T'kalia's article, but that'd include drawing the God-husk himself and that's a lot of time. :(
Architecture Across Cathedris
The last thing noted on my August-plan was a plan to create a series of articles detailing different architecture from different cultures across Cathedris! I think an obviously easy place to start would be The Coastal City-state of Russin, Russin, as it's my most fleshed out location. But I'm working on a cool town idea for a settlement within Hansun, and if I get that done, then I'll do an article on it's very unique architecture as well!

Stubs Stubs Stubs

I should probably get around to completing these stubs, eh? Listed here are some of the stubs I am most interested in completing, and the kind of article it'd be! This list is for if I'm feeling low on inspiration with my other planned articles -- this way I'll have this list here I can look at and pick something from.
  • Avartarian [Character/God-husk]
  • Azca Wastes home of Catalurgic Progress [Landmark/Location]
  • Entheologist [Profession]
  • God-husks [Species/overview article]
  • Rumours of the 15th [Myth/Lore]
  • Simulsplosives [Technology]
  • Yuai Do [Ritual/Martial Art]
  • Question for the readers: What are you interested in learning more about Cathedris? That's the third avenue I can go, should the first 2 options fail to inspire me. What interests you, and what do you like to see?
    — Me, Stormbril.

    Community Involvement

I've really struggled with staying involved with the community these days... I find I have next to no time to enjoy reading other peoples work, or hang out in the WA Discord to chat :(. I'm going to do my best to remedy that (without destroying my mental health in the process by taking on too much at once!). At the very least, after my final exams are done, I should be able to swing by and catch up on what I missed :D   In my absence... have some Cheershark! I put together some corny (very corny) cheershark images, designed to hype up or cheer on those prepping for or participating in WorldEmber. Use em however you want! (other than for Eeeeviiillll!). Feel free to right-click, view image, and save them to use as you choose :D

    psssst...   Are you doing NaNoWriMo?
Then maybe you'd like some NaNo Cheersharks to help out as well! :D

Cheershark is here for us all! :D   And thank you so much! I've missed being around too, and I can't wait until I'm no longer forced to read scholarly papers and instead can have time to read everyone else's fantastic work :D   Good luck with WorldEmber as well! :)

Glad to see you back at it! Good luck balancing everything you have to do without accidentally burning out again. I'm excited to see what you can manage this worldbuilding season.

"You can Turtle-y do it!" absolutely cracked me up! I don't know what's got me more hyped: the amazing illustrations, the excellent puns, or the exciting article plans.   Good luck! I'm sure you will smash World Ember.

Cheershaaaark :D A temporarily acceptable substitute, but one we'd much rather see WITH the Stormy to accompany its kelpy little pompoms! I hope your December is going well, stress is staying low, and that WorldEmber has wrought some inspiration for you! <3

You are doing a great job! Keep creating; I believe in you!

Happy to at least have had cheershark here in my place! This December has absolutely flown by, and regrettably full of stress :D But, all the stressors are now over, and I've got 2 days to really dig into WorldEmber -- here we goooo!

Welcome Back Storm, I know you have this. 5k words aren't all that many, to be honest, a couple of good articles and you will be there.   Love the Cheershark ;)   But enough reading comments let's see you get those words.
