Sergeant

This is a Summer Camp article written AT GREAT SPEED! It has not yet been edited, so apologies for the copious typos and small text issues.

Sergeant is a mid-rank of the Laudon Guard, an organization that enforces law and order across the territories held by the Laudon City State.   ef

Chain of Command

A Sergeant usually reports to an officer of rank Captain or higher, or sometimes to another Sergeant. A Sergeant usually has lower-ranking officers, such as Lieutenants, Corporals and Privates, beneath them. fef

Responsibilities

A promising Sergeant may be appointed charge over a Hundred, an area of land smaller than a Shire which usually contains one or more villages. These sergeants are considered "management material" by the guard HQ, and often coordinating a Hundred is a step towards promotion to greater things.
Sergeants overseeing a Hundred will liase with a series of trusted Lieutenants, who in turn oversee each Village personally, manage and train the new recruits, such as Corporals and Privates, and ensure the day-to-day apprehending of petty criminals and other small infractions against the law. If major infractions do occur, or the Sergeant believes that the overseeing Lieutenant cannot be trusted to handle affairs in their village, they may travel to the village and take a more active role in the proceedings.

If a Sergeant has not been entrusted to oversee a Hundred directly, they may also be appointed as a hands-on officer of lower prestige within a larger district. For example, many of the street-patrols in the City of Laudon are handled or coordinated by Sergeants, since the crime in the city is usually of a more serious nature.
