Sources of Magic

Most sages of the world agree on the following sources of magic and powers. What they don't agree on is known as the Straithon - Narris Conflict. The main two view points are that all magic or power come from one magic source or multiple sources.
The first theory named after Straithon an arch-wizard, says magic or magic-like powers comes from a single sources or well and are filtered or flavored in between. For example divine miracles come from the same source of all magic, through a diety and then channeled to a priest. This diety flavors the magic based on themself and their purview.
The second theory named after Narris a high priest of Lothian claims that each type of power is different and does not originate from a single a source. Divine miracles comes from the "heavens" or bright realms beyond while demonic powers and necromancy come from the Underworld or the dark realms.
Oddly enough both men lived and died during different times from each other and yet their legacy lives on in the form of a conflict theory combining them.

Arcane

Magic permeates the world and everything from the realms beyond, much like the heat felt from a distant fireplace.

Wizards

Wizards study the art of magic tapping into the weave drawing on this force focusing it to effects. They use a variety of methods including but not limited too symbols, language, components, foci, glyphs, circles, true names and hand gestures. What sages will never agree on is how much of this is really needed or part of the myth of magic to confound and confuse enemies. There are books, tomes and even library dedicated to the study of learning the arcane arts as well as the tried an true method of mentor an apprentice.

Sorcerers

Sorcerers are similar to wizards and at first glance can be mistaken for them. For sorcerers the elements and effects are similar but the methods are more instinct and will the study and academic. While both may throw a fireball at you, the sorcerer with a hint of red dragons blood running through his soul reached down inside himself, feeling the connection to magic and wills his words to have effect on the world.

Bardic

Bardic magic shares some base elements with wizards or sorcerers tapping into the weave of magic but using a narrow focus of methods to bring about the effects. Common elements of bardic magic involves words, stories, song and music. Also bardic magic commonly focuses on enchantment and illusory effects.

Divine

Divine magic is often called channeling or miracles. Unlike arcane wielders that draw directly on magic, users of divine magic are gifted this power through other entities "gods" or by sacred creed or oath to a belief or faith. It is very common for divine magic to be focuses with the use of symbols, prayers, words and even places aligned or dedicated to the god or faith they represent. Wielders of divine magic are often called clerics, priest or paladins.
The celestial waters and the primal pools get a little murky as a priest of nature may draw on the primal forces of natures instead of receive their blessing from the gods. While certain druids are said to be nothing more that priests of nature gift their miracles by the gods of nature.

Nature / Primal

Druidic

Druids, shaman nature priests and some rangers may call on the primal forces of this world. Some argue that their magic is even closer to them then arcane user as it does not get filtered from the realms beyond, while others counter with it is the same magic filtered through a different lens of understanding. Some argue that natures is magic that focuses the elements of this world powered by the elemental realms beyond and others argue that primal magic focuses completely on spirits and ancestorial magic. It is common for druidic magic to be focused using elements of nature and the environment including earth, plants, water, even animals and the weather.

Self

Ki

  PENDING

Psionics

  PENDING
More sages argues over the smallest segment of "magic" or "powers" called Ki or Psionics. So similar they have to be they same or nuanced enough they are different. While the mind mages and monks care little for these sagely debates as they know their training and focus brings about the desired result.

Other

Everything else in the larger and muddy maelstrom of magic has many small threads spinning endlessly out into the far reaches. This section covers Shadow Magic, Pack Magic, Vampire Blood Sorcery and things far stranger.
Many sages argue their is no other category of magic and all of these fall with the four above. However they explain this magic is flavored or tainted by the entity, place or beliefs they pass through. So a Warlock in league with a Arch-Devil has the same arcane magic just tainted by the Arch-Devil allowing him to use it.   While other shout that Shadow Magic is a thread of its own, the opposite of magic and coming from somewhere else, maybe it comes from the Shadow fell exclusively and the Fae glamours and tricks they use come from the Feywild.
