Planned Events

Opening Ceremony
The Condiment Clash commenced with a dazzling opening ceremony that captivated the crowd. Spectators were treated to a breathtaking display of condiment-themed fireworks and performances by culinary artists, setting the stage for the intense battles to come. Each event happened alongside the others, with participants and audiences choosing which they preferred to attend.

Squeeze Off
The competition kicked off with the Squeeze Off, a test of precision and control. Participants showcased their dexterity by skillfully filling various containers with their condiment of choice. Each squeeze was meticulously judged for accuracy and neatness. Bonus points were awarded for artistic flair and innovative techniques.

Speed Eating Spectacle
Participants devoured a plate of food, generously drenched in their condiment of choice, as quickly as possible. It was a test of skill, speed, precision, and the ability to savor the flavors under the pressure of time. These were key elements that influenced the judges' decision.
Condiment Creation Challenge
The Condiment Creation Challenge put participants' culinary skills to the test. Armed with a selection of ingredients, spices, and secret recipes, contestants crafted their own unique ketchup or mustard blends. The judges scrutinized each creation, considering factors such as taste, aroma, originality, and presentation.

Condiment Artistry
Participants unleashed their creativity and transformed plain pan bread into vibrant masterpieces using ketchup and mustard as their medium. The judges evaluated each artwork based on visual impact, creativity, technique, and the ability to convey the essence of the condiment.

Sauce Slingshot Showdown
The grand finale was the Sauce Slingshot Showdown. Armed with specially designed slingshots, participants launched sauce-filled balloons at targets scattered across the battleground. The judges awarded points based on the accuracy, distance, and visual impact of the sauce splatter. It would have been a spectacle of aim, strategy, and sauce-soaked excitement, but quickly turned into a hysterical food fight jam-packed with laughter.

Long ago, there was a legendary event known as the Sauce Slingshot Showdown. It was a time when ketchup lovers clashed with mustard enthusiasts, their passions ablaze like a fiery skillet.   But oh, how fate had a way of seasoning things just right. As sauce filled the sky, something extraordinary occurred.   Laughter erupted.   The fierce rivals realized the folly of their strife and came together in culinary camaraderie.   With a twinkle in their eyes and a smile on their lips, they blended ketchup and mustard on hotdogs and burgers. It was a delicious revelation, a reminder that even amidst the strongest disagreements, the spice of unity and the joy of laughter can bring harmony to our lives. And so, we carry this tale as a cherished story, passed down through generations, a testament to the power of flavors united.

Relish Rising
Just when it seemed that the showdown had reached its sweet, harmonious conclusion, whispers began to circulate among the condiment circles of Culinaria. Rumor had it that a new faction was emerging from the shadows, threatening to reignite the age-old conflict between condiment enthusiasts.   The Relish People.   With their arrival, a sense of uncertainty permeated the air. Whispers of a potential relish rebellion echoed through the communities, leaving many wondering if the showdown had merely been a temporary truce. Only time will tell if the relish will emerge as a formidable force, reigniting the condiment conflict that had once gripped Culinaria.

The entire time reading, I was wondering, "but what about relish?" Naturally, I was very pleased to see it show up at the end. Of course, I'm curious now... what about the mayo fans? Or different types of mustard? Are there rebels within the yellow, dijon, or honey groups (and maybe a couple of honey mustard people are secretly agave?) The war will wage on forver!

Hahahah I would never forget about the relish! The Condiment Clashes are ongoing food wars within Culinaria, although some may reach an agreement to let people top their hotdogs and burgers with whatever they'd like, there will always be people who yuck other people's yums xD

So, uhm....legit question... Have you considered making this into a 2-4 player card game? Because this would be amazingly fun AND cute. Relish Rising could be the Kickstarter-only expansion. And the Mayo Makeover (upgraded game pieces) stretch goal.

I love this idea!! This could be sooo much fun!

As a card game, it would be best to start with an existing rules etc like canasta, gin, war, etc, and then edit the rules to add flavor. I've actually got a light treatment worked up for converting War rules, LUL LUL LUL

Jul 18, 2023 15:28 by Emily Armstrong

ooo that sounds so cool! I'm going with a slightly different starting point so it fits in the game jam, I'm thinking the game starts with a deck shuffle and dealing 8 cards to each player. The players declare their condiment team, choose a skill from an available list (things like drawing additional cards each turn, adding a point to defense, ability to check a card from an opponent's hand every other turn), and then place 5 cards face down in front of them to designate targets. The game then starts in turn-based combat, with players using the cards in their hand as attacks against their enemy targets. Face cards can be used any time as a special skill and allow things like additional attacks or discarding enemy hand cards. Still tossing ideas around the ol' noggin' but I should have more info out asap! It'll be a free-to-play one-page rpg available right here on WorldAnvil and on itch.io :D

Team mustard for the win!!   Super fun article jam-packed with suspense and laughter. I don't know why I love the idea of warring condiment factions so much, but I do lol :) (I'm surprised there wasn't a Colonel Mustard, though)

It was sooo tempting to put in a Colonel Mustard, but I worry about IP with the name hahahahah. There's no reason somebody couldn't include them in their home games though ;D

This is cute and clever. You've also set out everything I want to see in a military conflict article; we know the sides, the stakes, the course of the conflict, how it ended, why it ended the way it did. And, as always, your CSS and art are beautiful. Well done!
