Duchy of Devarin

The Duchy of Devarin (DEV-ah-rin) is a duchy within the Grand Duchy of Devarin. It lies to the far west of the nation. The current Duchess is Eormen Noke II, 14th Grand Duchess Devarin and 27th Duchess Devarin.

History

The Duchy of Devarin was officially established in 521 by the de facto ruler of the settlements in the area, Dareau Noke. Styling himself as a Duke, similar to the other regional rulers at the time, the Duchy of Devarin was declared. In 598, the Duchy of Devarin was absorbed into the Kingdom of Edror following a military conflict. In 643, Edror and its neighbor Drostan formed a political union, resulting in the formation of the Kingdom of Enerias. In 948, Walde Noke usurped the kingship from his half-brother. In 976 - 979, reformations within the Kingdom of Enerias resulted in the capital being moved to Devarin, and the title of King being replaced in favor of the title of Grand Duke. Since that point the Grand Duchy has always been controlled by a member of House Noke who have ruled from the Duchy of Devarin.

Notable Locations

Preton

The capital city of the Grand Duchy, and one of the largest cities in the nation. Sitting at the mouth of the Snakefang River as it enters the Redwater Bay.

Leistone

A large trade town upriver from Preton. A popular travel stop on the road to the capital. Known as a very popular town to interact with foreign merchants and traders entering the Grand Duchy before they press onwards.
