Duchy of Ecrin

The Duchy of Ecrin (EHK-rin) is a duchy within the Grand Duchy of Devarin. It is located to the east, on the northern shore of the Unbroken Sea and the Greatwyrm Mountains. The Current Duke is Brancis Warre, 7th Duke Ecrin.

History

Following heavy raiding from nearby steppe horsemen tribes in the year 1136, Grand Duke Ichard Noke ordered the settling and establishment of the border duchies to act as shields against future raids. Ecrin was the name given to the strategic point between the Unbroken Sea and the Greatwyrm Mountains. Settlement was encouraged in many of the core regions of the Grand Duchy by giving new settlers grants of coin and land. In 1139 the Duchy of Ecrin was officially created, and the title granted to Stallark Warre.

Economy

Ecrin is largely self sufficient due to historical infrastructure planning, meaning the majority of trade travel is exports. The chief exports of Ecrin are stone and brick, both quarried and manmade. One of the more sought after items of Ecrin economy is the brick known as scalebrick, a type of brick created from special material that makes it much stronger than typical masonry. Many of the strongest fortifications in the Grand Duchy is created from scalebrick.
