Acadian Reclaimers
Background
Legend has it that some time shortly after The Fall many groups of what would be known later across the wastes as Reclaimers began migrating from the large, centralized cities in the frozen north. One of these groups, on the brink of annihilation, managed to make its way through the Red Embankment and find themselves before Gate 95 of The Wall. Denied from entering The Bailey this group of refugee Reclaimers pleaded with the Drafted Service that guarded Gate 95 to allow their group to enter The Bailey so that they could try to make new lives. After several days an unnamed Senator allowed them passage, and they were escorted to Balhsmore, where overtime they would build up a small community with other scattered local Reclaimers in a sub district called the Acadian District.
Over time the Reclaimers that lived within the Acadian District would focus on self sufficiency with each other, relying heavily on their small community while leaning into their unique physiology, and tapping into the skills passed down for generations. Combining their heritage and history as hunters in the frozen north they took to assisting the rest of the peoples of The Bailey with hunting powerful critters that threatened everyone’s safety, bringing back trophies, food, and materials from their hunts all up and down the Cheapskate Bay. It would take no time at all for the peoples of The Bailey to recognize the service the small community of Reclaimers brought to their shores and eventually the moniker of Acadian Reclaimer, or Acadian for short, would spread.
Coincidentally as Acadian Reclaimers continued their style of life, hunting critters up and down the coast, over the generations their eyes began mutating and evolving slightly. No records exist of the first mutation to appear within the Acadian Reclaimers, but eventually more and more Acadians would develop or be born with the evolved eyes until the vast majority of Acadian Reclaimers sported them. Doctors and scientist who have investigated this evolution have little evidence as to what caused the evolution to trigger, but have pointed out a clear connection between the unique way in which they hunt and the benefits that the mutation gives to parts of the body.
Costume and Roleplay Requirements
Like their more common Wasteland cousins, the Acadians have exposed musculature along their upper bodies, and often find themselves wrapping their larger muscle groups in support cloth or rigid materials to better brace themselves when bringing a rifle to bear. Unlike their more common Wasteland cousins however the veins around their eyes leading back to their temples and upper cheekbones have enlarged, protruding just enough to be noticeable at a short distance. This has become the identifier of an Acadian Reclaimer, showing their distinct evolution, something that they have come to take a great deal of pride in and treat it as a badge of honor or a symbol of where they come from, so they do not hide it if possible.
Acadian Reclaimers exude a sense of resilience, self-reliance, and community. Their body language reflects both caution and openness. They carry themselves with a sense of purpose, moving with deliberate steps as they navigate both the coastline and the developed areas of Balhsmore. There is a gleam of determination in their eyes, a spark that refuses to go out despite the challenges they face.
Acadians wear clothing that combines functional utility with cultural symbolism. Their clothing is made from durable, weather-resistant materials salvaged from the remnants of the Old World. They prefer earthy tones, such as deep greens, browns, and hints of red and black flannel, which evoke a connection to the natural world. Traditional northern elements, such as embroidered accents and furs, are incorporated into their garments as a reminder of their cultural identity.
Practical accessories, such as belts with pockets and straps for carrying tools, are common among Acadian Reclaimers. These accessories serve both functional and symbolic purposes, representing their self-sufficiency and preparedness. In addition, they may wear handmade jewelry crafted from natural materials, such as King Crab shells, bones, or teeth, as a show of their hunting prowess.
