Murilans (Merr-Ih-Lins)
Background
The Merican clades of the Dominus Columbia believe themselves to be heirs of a mythic lost land, and they will absolutely tell you about it. The Kingsdom of Ole Murilan, a chivalric world of knights and crab-hunts, ruled by their great forebear Best King Nelson of the Crowned Veil, looms large in the legends of the modern day Murilans. The Crowned Veil, a historic fortification near Anna Polis, remains culturally significant among Murilans to this day. Revels at the old fort often include raucous festivities and recreations of storied battles. Some dedicated performers choose to fully embody their role in these rites, and the superstitious among the Murilans believe these actors may become possessed by the otherworldly essence of the oldcestors they portray. Each of Ole Murilan’s four heraldic colors, red, white, black, and gold, possess special significance. Red symbolizes all true red-blooded Murilans, while the others represent the three big feels: white-hot anger, deep-black sadness, and bright-golden happiness.Whether they be knights of the waste, crustacean wranglers, motor jousters, or other stranger types, nearly all Murilans are staunchly protective of the region and its people. Murilans are frequently found in the ranks of the Drafted Service and Patrol Line, as well as making up unofficial auxiliaries and formations that specifically confront unusual threats to the Bailey. Their approach is often blunt and unspecialized, but this sometimes makes them uniquely qualified to take on challenges that otherwise defy traditional logic.
Costume and Roleplay Requirements
Beyond sharing their wasteland cousins’ penchant for fetching headwear, the Murlians also consider it a point of pride to deck themselves out in patterns of red, white, black, and gold taken from the ancient flags of their great house. To not display the ensigns of Ole Murilan on their person is to not be a true Murilan, the one exception being patterns of what the oldcestors called “leopard print,” which are also acceptable for reasons so obscure they have long since been forgotten.
