The oath they take before learning seals the knowledge in in them so if they ever stop practicing or are named anathema they forget the craft in its entirety, so no records of the art exist beyond their sanctums.
The Demereas are given scales of truth which way the words of witnesses to determine truth and a bronze sword they can use to literally cut through lies.
History
From the founding of Aernadael, Dark Lady Adrestia, daughter of Dark Lady Rhamnusia, and niece of Dark Lady Ina Blackwood has served as Chief Aldordema of Aarnadael.
Mythology & Lore
The Dark Mother has many faces, depending on the eyes who seek to behold her in the shadows. When she beholds the world as it is and sees it truth, we call her Themis. She perceives truth in all its forms and with her sword cuts through the lies of the darkness to reveal the light.
In the twilight of the Age of Night, Mother Themis appeared to Adrestia and told her to follow the lead of her aunt Hesperia, who unknowingly became the hand of Themis to end the reign of Nyx. She sought Hesperia out, who claimed no knowledge of Themis or a plot against her mother.
Adrestia stayed in the palace, in constant prayer for guidance as the days drug on. In those days, she received the Book of Sword and Scales as a direct revelation from Themis. She called the vestal virgins to her, and they saw the wisdom in the book, but few chose to stay with her Fanum Iustitia, or Temple of Justice.
She trained those who remained in the secret arts she received and told them to watch for the sign of their liberation, when they would have to go forth separate truth from lies
The Fanum Iustitia gathered in the palace garden for a prayer vigil. The sky erupted in flames. Two great wyrms burst from the palace walls, one bleeding from a mortal wound, the other savagely striking with talon and tooth.
Nyx's unholy blood rained down on those first followers as the Nightfall played out over their heads. Flames and terror ruled the night.
When Nyx's broken body fell into the city streets beyond wall. Adrestia told the first followers their time was at hand. "Go forth and spread the world, the night has fallen. Freedom is ours again."
As the first raise of the liberated sun broke on the horizon, Adrestia's skin burned and she fled to shelter.
The word was carried far and wide by the Fanum Iustitia, setting the stage from the message of Fritha and Scildend, that would change the world for every.
Divine Origins
Adrestia signed the covenant when the Giants asked and offered the arts she had received to High King to bring justice and ensure truth in all of Aernadael.
