Adela of Vallonmere
Centuries ago in Vallonmere, Lake Vallon as it was known then, was the town's main source of water for it was as fresh as pie. Townsfolk would even bathe in the lake in the summer. This time of delight, however, soon became a time of suffering.
Winters have passed, but as the summers arrived, fewer folks were swimming in this lake. Parasites and sea vermin made this lake their home, as this once fresh spring of water became stale. Lake Vallon stagnated, murky and poisonous, the people of Vallonmere were dying. Crops were unyielding, livestock was diseased, many citizens perished.
Vallonmere was becoming like the lake beside it. The town's leader at the time begged time and again for aid, but no one would answer. Until when Adela, a citizen of Vallonmere, presented herself before the lake. She slowly began to make her way into the depths of the water. Then as she graciously bowed into the waves, Adela and the lake became one. By her divine-like Essence, the clear liquid of life is resurrected.
Vallon's Plague
In the Chronicles, there are reports of Adela's Rest, though at the time known as Lake Vallon, being harmful to the residents of Vallonmere. Approximately 50 citizens passed away each month, at the time of this calamity, due to ill health. Eventually, these numbers do decrease after 15 months of this sudden rise. The locals of Vallonmere do swear it was because of Adela's sacrifice.
Adela's Tribute
Adela's Essence flows in this lake, to rescue ourselves from the Withering. We are indebted to never forget this. Forever we will mourn, forever we will remember and forever we will be grateful. So let's celebrate by bringing ourselves upon the waves and let's say, thank you.
In the Kay's Visit to Vallonmere, Kayla Fogtree describes each year, the people of Vallonmere form a festival known as Adela's Tribute. A wide range of fun activities are held at this time; games, contests and food stalls open for all. The most traditional activity is to enter the lake, now known as Adela's Rest, where people swim, rejoice and express their gratitude.
What caused Vallon's Plague?
Around the time of Vallon's Plague, a new tin mine opened upstream of the Kólm's Drift . The exact location of this mine is unknown, as there is very little evidence of this mine ever existing. However many Scholars of the Crest have found only a few sources referring to a mine within the Panodon Heights. This does not prevent the theory of perhaps Vallon's plague was in fact caused by the wastage of this mine and the cure was by the collapse of this mine. Thus halting the source of pollution.
The locals of Vallonmere swear it was The Withering which was the cause of Vallon's Plague. However, this suggests there was a Mage within the town practising Magic. Who this Mage was, nobody knows; however, this does not prevent rumours and conjecture.
One Dwarf claims to have lived during these times. Dólrik Urrgénsun is an alleged friend of Adela indeed confirms her local heritage.
I can still remember her face to this day and how she willingly gave herself for the future of her home. It does not embarrass me to say it brings tears of sorrow and joy, whenever I attend the celebrations of Adela's Tribute
