Rajit's Ape, Gilbert (a.k.a. Rajit's Lab Assistant)

Gilbert is a gorilla born with a genetic deficiency which expressed in his adolescence. The deficiency left him sickly and weak, exuding a sour scent as his body failed to process hormonal byproducts. Gilbert was abandoned by his troop, believing him to be ill and near death. Unwell and unwanted, Gilbert sank into a depression and awaited his death.
Gilbert was discovered by a teenage Rajit, while she searched the forest looking for alchemical reagents. Seeing the abandoned gorilla, she saw a reflection of herself as a younger child. Over weeks of visits Rajit would bring food and build a relationship with Gilbert, rousing him from his depression and establishing a rapport.
Rajit soon realized Gilbert's health was deteriorating, and as the gorilla grew too weak to harm her she began to approach and attempt to treat him. Eventually after going as far as to dig into Gilbert's waste, she began to realize the imbalance in his bodies as she isolated the compounds. Rajit developed an enzyme to break down the toxins, and began to treat Gilbert.
Gilbert's health would improve, but without a social unit to call home he began to follow Rajit. She was small and as weak as a child, and he would often carry her on his back as he would a young gorilla. Soon he would find himself navigating the city streets of Lerwick, coming to know the clan of people who lived within the walls.
Gilbert understood the importance of Rajit's alchemy and began to support her in the laboratory, willingly accepting any medicines or potions she offered as he trusted her implicitly after she treated his illness. Gilbert developed a taste for some of the alcoholic solvents, and even some of the potions himself, only furthering his dependency and interest in substances.
As Rajit began to adventure out of Lerwick, Gilbert accompanied her. The two have extraordinary teamwork after spending years in the laboratory together, and are rarely separate, seeing each other as family.
Appearance:
Gilbert is a fully grown adult ape, standing 5'7" at 410 lbs. Gilbert has lustrous black fur, and is dressed in a long white coat and a gleaming set of plate barding embossed with the symbol of a bundle of hyssop stalks with purple blooms bound in red twine. Gilbert often reeks of alcohol, having developed a drinking habit after discovering the effects of Rajit's cleaning solutions and other potions during his work as Rajit's assistant.
Gilbert is a surprisingly sociable individual, and thoroughly enjoys being treated as an equal by others. Gilbert is a fairly intelligent ape, being especially talented in medicine. Although he solves many problems through the use of fisticuffs and blunt force trauma delivered through hurling rocks, Gilbert tries to maintain an air of sophistification, keeping himself rather clean and grooming his hair and 'beard.'
