Deep in the Dalelands of Faerûn runs a river; a turbulent flow of water that seeks the Sea of Fallen Stars. This river is joined by many tributaries as it gains strength in its journey. Some say there's magic in the Ashaba river; a divine and powerful force which warps the weave itself. Travelers tell of the water's surface reflecting a different realm's stars instead of the local night sky and of seasonal Mistrises, where rolling blankets of mist rise from the river and cover the land. They also tell of legendary folk who walk out of the mist, Drifters.   Adventurers from many crystal spheres find themselves washing ashore on the riverbanks during the seasonal Mistrises. Not all of them make it out of the mist; as not only adventurers but powerful monstrosities and other vile creatures are summoned by the river as well.   Along the shores of this river a town has sprung up; this is the town of Driftriver. Seeking to capitalize on the talents of the arriving adventurers' talents and exploit their need for shelter and other necessities an entrepreneur named Clifford Blythe bought as much land along the Ashaba river as he could afford and opened the Bureau of Adventuring Services and Employment, or B.A.S.E. No matter where you come from B.A.S.E. is willing to offer you employment and adventure. Welcome to the city of Driftriver.

Who We Are (Were)

Driftriver is an online Discord based role-playing game community playing Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition. As a community our goal is to allow DMs and players to share gaming sessions, role-play and discuss the hobby.   Driftriver is a persistent setting in which a large number of players, many playing multiple characters, are able to mingle and share game sessions, roleplay, and story. The Driftriver experience is different from the average DnD table or campaign which focus on a specific storyline and a static group of individual characters. Instead Driftriver is supported by multiple DMs who will host game sessions, often in a oneshot format, in which players apply based on their availability and interests.   The resulting storyline is akin to a patchwork quilt, with discrete chapters made up by each individual adventure. Characters will meet a large variety of party members in their adventures, and will experience a wide variety of playstyles and challenges from different DMs.

Our Values

Driftriver is founded by a staff of individuals who are experienced with online Dungeons & Dragons communities. We’ve experienced the ups and downs of many stylistic choices. Our core values are as follows:
  • Ease of Access. Creating characters, joining games, playing games, and finishing games should be easy.
  • Empower the Players. Players should be capable of driving their character story arc and making decisions for themselves. Because DMs can often change from game to game the main source of a character arc is the player themself.
  • Encourage Cooperation. We want players to play together, to that end we design systems to get players involved with each other and working together.
  • Civility. All players should be invested in the enjoyment of others at their table. Rudeness or violating server rules will result in warnings or removal from the community.
  • Inclusion. Driftriver tries to include all Wizards of the Coast content.
  • Reduce Paperwork. Players should have simple systems to manage and log. Keeping track of every point of experience or every gemstone they encounter is burdensome.
  • Simplify Equipment & Looting. The first thing when leaving initiative should not be searching bodies, it should be emotionally reacting to the battle. Also trying to remember what happened to the scroll of sleep you picked up 13 weeks ago is not fun. Players should have a simple and approachable loot systems.
  • Remove Competition. Players should never find themselves competing with each other for loot drops.
  • Fairness. All players should have equal opportunity and equal limits.
