Staff of Clarity

This unique artifact is said to belong to the chosen ones by god - the prophets, the messiahs, the visionaires. There are many churches that proclaim they own a shard of its crystal or a piece of its ornate wood as an ancient legend claims it was destroyed when the last prophet used it to save the world. It is also a frequent item that features in many art and financial scams. Pretty much anywhere you go on the main island, you can find a place or a person that will totally try to sell you a genuine piece of this relic that they got from their long lost great great great great uncle twice removed who won it in poker with a famous explorer This Andthat.
The Staff of Clarity is carved out of a long piece of an ebony tree, whose type is extinct. For an experienced botanist it should be fairly easy to find a genuine piece of wood that is old enough and preserved that could have been at least part of some very precious religious item. Whenever there is a possibility that a genuine new piece of this staff could have been found at a dig site, some experts are able to negotiate with the church to get a look at their relic wood pieces, but that is limited pretty much to only three people from the academia and only one of them is still alive today. At the top of the staff there was a crystal that got shattered and lost. That crystal was presumed to have white irridescent colour, reminding of a pearl but not quite. Its shape was also not round, but more sharp like quartzes tend to have.
The artefact was supposed to be extremely powerful in its intact form and you can go to any religious site and you'll discover murals and glass window panes and tapestries depicting the many wonders it could do. It was also called "The Hand of God" as it showed the clear and correct thing the gods wanted to happen on the planet, no questions asked. Even the creation of this staff was supposed to be utterly divine - a lightning stroke a tree that got carved out into the shape and the crystal was part of a star that fell down from heaven to guide people through the mist with its light.
