One of the twelve celestial followers of Thierrin. Baraqel's previous life was a tumultuous one, locked in ever-stormy battle with the Dragon of the Strait. The earth rose up to protect Thierrin, and in the aftermath, Thierrin invited Baraqel to follow him and learn peace. Baraqel taught people the art of sailing and weather-reading as she wandered with Thierrin. Description
Baraqel is described usually as a tall woman with a warrior's well-muscled build. It is written that the tone of her skin shifted with the hue of the clouds above her. Her hair was ever tousled, touched by a wind unfelt by others. In her eyes was lightning that crackled when strong emotions danced in her heart. Baraqel's divine inheritance was control over the weather and giftedness in battle. Millennia over the ocean gave her an unparalleled understanding of the ocean's currents and how they interact with the wind. She can name all manner of fish and sea-born creature. Fulminer is Baraqel's sword. It houses the power of lightning in its jagged, serrated metal. It is now held by the Ducal Household of Baramar, and imparts to its holder --if they are found worthy-- the ability to call down lightning.Inheritance
Fulminer
When Baraquel departed this world with Thierrin, she left her sword to her chosen people. The owner of Fulminer is charged with not only protecting Cetoile's shores and the duchy of Baramar, but also with protection of peace and love. The sword is about four feet long and made of metal mined from a meteor and forged by the fire of a star. Its edge is finely serrated. The blade's metal is of numerous shades, reminiscent of storm clouds. Amethysts are set into the hilt and crossbar.Faith
Baraqeline worship most often takes place at dusk or before, during or after storms. The Cetoiline religion holds that she will assist the faithful in times of strife, in war, on maritime voyages and during storms. She imparts courage and self-discipline. Baraqeline rituals concern wind, water, blades and light. Her religious chapter is named the Amethyst Order.Clerics or Baraqel are a martial sort, trained to protect their charges. Some Knights of the Blackened earth are clerics, and there exists an understanding between the Order and the Knights; the former offering spiritual advice and assistance while the latter provides martial aid where necessary.
Knights of the Blackened Earth
This chivalric order was founded on the hill which Baraqel is said to have taken her first footsteps on the earth, arriving in a bolt of lightning that scorched the earth. Its headquarters surround this hill, and care is taken to ensure its crest is kept bald of grass and growth. The order's style of combat is named Cloud and Bolt. The Cloud is about movement, and is primarily focused on the movement of groups to distract an enemy, followed by the Bolt: swift and decisive martial manoeuvres. Knights of the Blackened Earth tend to wear light armor to allow for freedom of movement. The few magic-users within their ranks primarily and predictably focus their magic on the creation of lightning and control of the waves and wind.Holy Days
