Samyazai

"All knowledge is worth having."

Desire is an affliction affecting even the stars. For eons countless, Samyazai saw to the Akashic Records, the accumulation of the knowledge of all worlds and the records of all deeds that had been performed within them. Samyazai's tireless efforts ensure the Records were ordered, and with but a heartbeat, he could find the knowledge he was loking for. Flawless memory and quicksilver recollection were his. He could recount, compare and contrast sagas, campaigns and discoveries of mortals from many worlds.
Samyazai was the first star Tanaris sent down to the earth. With Samyazai's knowledge of strategy and tactics, he seemed to the Lord of the Sky a natural choice to capture the nascent Wanderer and bring him to his rightful home in the Land Beyond the Clouds.
Even a god as old as time is wont to make mistakes now and then, however. As Samyazai studied his quarry, he came to understand that Thierrin was both deity and mortal, and that the mortals whose knowledge and stories he had collected were not as unlike him as he had once believed. Thierrin's affectionate curiosity for mortals allowed Samyazai to understand that the lives of mortals are not merely a series of events to be recorded. Samyazai approached the Wanderer with caution, only for Thierrin to throw his arms about him and greet him like a long-lost brother. Samyazai reasoned then, that if Thierrin was neither god nor mortal, it was his choice in which realm he should walk. He said, too, that as he had a promise to fulfil, he could not return to the Great Library while Thierrin walked on the earth, and so he would follow the Wanderer wherever he went. It is said that when he pronounced this decision, Taranis' rage grew so strong that for three nights, the sky was starless.
Samyazai's descendants are primarily found in the the duchy of Sammaire, home to the Cetoilais Academy, the country's most prestigious university. Samyazai's scions have a love for knowledge and a singular ability to retrieve and store mental information, and are skilled scholars, tacticians, historians and bureaucrats. Samyazai taught the people of Cetoilais the worth of knowledge and systems to store it.

Faith

He is associated with the sky and basil. His clergy are often ascetic monks dedicated to the preservation and dissemination of knowledge. The ones who do not entirely eschew the urbane are predominantly found in the Cetoilais Academy in Rentaine, the Sammairais capital. The Academy triples as a place of learning, the Royal Library, and the home of the Chapter, the Etoiline order venerating Samyazai.
