The Everforest

The range that rises across Ereb and Anatoia pen in the Everforest, a vast, cursed forest that blankets the north of the continent. It is claimed by no country, universally deemed to be too dangerous to be worth the resources among its mist-enshrouded trees. The trees in the Everforest are twisted echoes of what they are elsewhere.

A World of Twisted Fairy Tales

The Everforest is ancient. The point of its transformation from sylvan sprawl to misty mass is uncertain. Earliest records of Alkhafi, Imperial and Rumain explorers describe the expanse as nothing more than a particularly vast boreal forest. Like all distant lands, it was surrounded by its share of fantastic fables. Fairies inhabited the forest, or demons, or angels. Fair folk of power that could give you eternal life, grant your wishes, smite your enemies. They were shy, elusive and magical in a manner alien to much of the world. Undoubtedly, some of these stories were true. The old records posit the forest as the source of the fae in the world. At some point, the forest changed into the forbidding land it is now.

Without a doubt, the fae rule the forest. The Winter Queen once laid claim to this land. The court of Winter Queen relinquished her claim, Kartharni magicians who bind fae say, some thousand years ago. What remains there now are fae similar to the trees themselves -- twisted, dark echoes. The marvelous, horrifying creatures that call the Everforest home hold various powers. There are creatures who will grant wishes, bestow power, restore youth. In the dark depths is a world of bioluminscent plants full of potent powers. The creatures that prowl this lightless land are similarly alien. Flora or fauna, the life of the Everforest can kill.

Misty and Mysterious

The Everforest is eternally blanketed in an eerie fog. The properties of this fog seem to shift, but it remains the bane of any who try to map or traverse the forest. Long-term exposure to the forest's mist results in mistlung. The mist's source and origin remain a mystery even now. How long been? what do?
