And so the green star came to earth, flowers at his feet, Wand'ring gentle, heaven to hearth, loving each mortal he did meet, Until long tired he settled down and sowed his seeds with mirth, And taught the people how to nurture nature and grow with it accrete. One of the twelve followers of Thierrin. Urdel was a watchful star tasked with cultivating and nurturing the plants and animals of Ealam. He watched Thierrin from afar, impeding his progress through the growth of roots or the urging of wild animals. Even the animals submitted to Thierrin, however, and the plants acquiesced to his pleas. When Thierrin explained to Urdel that his love for mortality encompassed all living things upon Ealam, the star broke his vow of obedience to Taranis, and wandered the lands with Thierrin and the other stars. Urdel's descendants are most concentrated in Urdenai, and are skilled at agriculture, animal husbandry and horticulture, the arts which Urdel imparted to the Cetoilais. Elves number uncommonly common among his children. Rarely, an elven child grows a bestial tail in Urdenai, a sure sign that The Gardener has taken a singular interest in the destiny of the child. Urdel is associated with nature, nurture, the plough, daffodils and the colour green.
Description
Urdel is often depicted with a green robe and wings the colour of red earth. His eyes were the colour of emeralds, but legends seem to be uncertain regarding the colour of his hair. It is said that he could shift into the shape of any creature, but always retaining his green eyes.Faith
Siblings of the Sacred Acorn is the religious organisation dedicated to Urdel. Acorned Siblings wander the lands tending to nature and farmlands quietly. They aspire to do no harm to people or nature, but will fight to protect nature if they believe they must. Siblings adhere to a strict vegetarian diet. The Siblings' records place their founding date three decades after Thierrin and the Stars left for Terre d'Etoile. The founder of the Siblings was a boy when Urdel first came to Vertmont, and the boy sat at Urdel's feet, paying close attention to the words of the Green Star. This boy was later known as Saint Orme d'Vertmont. He wandered Cetoile in his youth, nurturing the natural beauty of the land.
Seed: All acolytes are given the charming title of Seed. A Seed who is new is appropriately termed a New Seed. When a New Seed has been initiated into the Mysteries of the Oak, they are simply a Seed. A Seed's duties revolve around learning about and nurturing nature. A Seed must journey to the Grand Temple in Urdenais if they wish to progress in the Siblings' hierarchy.
Sapling: A Seed becomes a Sapling after traveling to the Grand Temple and meeting one of the Tenders, who will consider the Seed's suitability for the Siblings. Those deemed suitable are given a small sapling to nurture as they learn the Green Scriptures, the collected wisdom of Urdel and his celestial kin.
Branch: A Branch is a Sapling who has passed a test assigned for them by a Tender. This is the rank most people who join the Siblings eventually attain, and the majority of the Siblings are Branches.
Trunk: Trunks support the Siblings. Branches who are considered worthy are given a quest by a Tender; one of great importance or danger. Those who succeed are given the title of Trunk.
Tender: There are thirteen Tenders at any given time. At least one is always present at the Grand Temple in Vertmont. Tenders, as their name suggest, tend to the Siblings, the Green Scriptures, and relationships with external organisations. Among the thirteen Tenders, there is one Gentle Tender, the head of the Siblings.
