Ereina'ilitak

Long before our time, there existed an alliance. Four Saurian kings and queens formed a tentative truce to try and develop a greater empire. Each of these were significant powers in their own right, taking control of vast kingdoms for their own and subjugating hundreds of thousands. Together, it was believed that this alliance would be unstoppable, if it wished to conquer more than just their current holdings. The only thing that prevented total continental domination was the alliance itself. Marked from the first day by in-fighting and political plots to gain more power than the others, the Saurian rulers devoted all of their time to preventing the others from gaining more power than themselves. Over time, this empire of theirs collapsed around them, the people, forced to live in a state of unmanaged rule and almost constant raids by bandits, rose up and turned against their bickering rulers. The kings and queens, maintaining a few loyal followers, retreated to mountain holds where they might be safe and Valkana became a free land once more.   The former leaders, holed up with their followers, moved to gain power in more archaic means. They pursued many dark arts and magics previously thought lost, aiming to preserve their lives and thereby find a time when the land would be weak once more. One tried to gain eternal life, employing ancient rituals to preserve his form for ages hence. Another built himself up in the eyes of his followers as a god, hoping to ascend before his life found its end. The third researched storing her essence in relics, hoping to survive through the endurance of stone. The fourth sought to become like a spirit, hoping that without a physical form she might grow beyond the normal concerns of this life.   It is unknown if any of them succeeded, let alone survived, but we remember their tale as one of warning. We also remember it as a bit of hope, that all tyrants, no matter how powerful, might be brought down by those of us who do not possess power.

Structure

Composed of 4 former kingdoms, the main governing body was formed of the four kings and queens, who held council to make decisions, but otherwise used their own courts of nobility and servants to accomplish things in their own territory. They never got to a point of drawing up anything more official than a treaty between the four.

Public Agenda

Their original intent was to conquer all the rest of Valkana and build a proud empire.

Demography and Population

Saurians were considered first class citizens in this culture. Those of any other race were either subjugated and enslaved, or treated as such by their "superiors". There are only a few of the non-scaled races that rose to any sort of prominence, and that was usually through some deals they cut with the kingdoms for their own power.
