Hometree

The Hometrees were among the first plants to sprout on Zinneria. It is unknown why there are only three, nor how they achieved such heights. They remain a unique marvel in this world of oddities.
The top of the home tree was made flat at some point in it's history. It is believed that this happened by the tree's own will, as it is as smooth as if someone had carved it by hand with a chisel.
The hometree is massive, rising a half mile off the ground and stretching for a mile in diameter. It is large enough that each one hosts its own thriving city, far off the ground. At its center is a central trunk, the interior of which is hollow and forms a natural chamber for the leaders of each city to call meetings. In the rear middle of these chambers is a special seat, one reserved for the Root.
The Root is a position of honor and sacrifice. When one becomes a Root, they are bonded to the tree for life, forming a physical and mental bond with the tree and sharing a consciousness. The tree provides eons of wisdom and guidance, while the Root commands the whole city, providing necessary care and protection for the tree. This process of pairing has existed for thousands of years. When a root reaches his limit of age, the tree absorbs his essence and he becomes one of the many collective voices living in the tree's mind, providing wisdom from his time along with all his predecessors.

The Hometrees all each sport a labyrinthine series of passages climbing throughout the trunk. It is said that former Roots have used these passages to store treasures, but knowledge of what might be inside is lost to time. Rarely are the ancestral insights regarding how to gain wealth, and any effort to retrieve such information must have strong justification from the current Root.
