The Crèche

The life of poverty in Vorakis is one of small opportunities and big risks. The sewers under the city, the long buried ruins of civilizations long past, they provide the opportunity for those foolish enough to retrieve treasures or relics. This can be profitable for those who are on hard times, providing a much needed burst of income, but they are also extremely dangerous. Many more lose their lives than ever come out smiling.
The natural result of this, of course, is orphaned children. For many years the problem was a serious epidemic, orphaned children running about the streets, forming gangs and harassing passersby. The Mayor made the decision to fund an orphanage that could stop this problem. It mostly worked, but now, many years later, The Crèche is underfunded and in poor keeping. The man who runs it, a former clergyman by the name of Father Stone, doesn't have the funds to hire more people or pay for better materials.
