William Sydney Porter (a.k.a. O. Henry)

William Sydney Porter, better known by his pen name O. Henry, was an American short story writer. His tales are known for their wit, wordplay, warm characterization, and clever twist endings. Porter's prolific writing career began when he moved to New York City in 1902, where he penned more than 300 stories. His most famous stories include "The Gift of the Magi" and "The Ransom of Red Chief." Despite his success, Porter's life was marred by financial difficulties and health issues, leading to his premature death.
