I traveled with Maesin Zisne for many years before and after the artifact. She was brilliant and kept her rattletrap ship running through luck, skill, and copious duct tape.

Maesin Zisne was a gifted human engineer and starship technician. She graduated top of her class from the Meraxa Polytechnic.
Despite lucrative corporate recruitment offers, Zisne rejected the prospect of a conventional research position. She instead opted to sign on with independent cargo freighter crews, driven by her thirst for adventure and discovery. Her engineering brilliance and improvisational skills were credited with many freighter's improbable success and survival despite their battered state.
In 292 OC, Zisne took on an ill-fated expedition to the fringe systems, sponsored by undisclosed corporate archaeologists. It was here that Zisne is believed to have encountered an exotic alien substance. Current theory suggests Zisne's consciousness and life force were absorbed into the crystalline alien matter, creating a unique amalgam - the being/object now designated the Zisne Artifact.
