Absolution
A new faith considered by many to be overzealous, the Absolution believes fallen stars are gifts from the heavens. Using these "gifts," the Absolution medically inserts fragments of the fallen star into their body as an act of loyalty so they may become "stars" and fight back the all-consuming void.
Veryne was once the proud capital of the Vhalurian Empire, a small yet prosperous empire on the eastern continent of Lyrathil. After 150 years of steady, if not complacent, rule by House Ludremon, an unfortunate cosmic accident brought about the city's immediate destruction.
On that fateful night, enormous fragments of a fallen star rained down upon Veryne, devastating the city and contaminating its residents, causing them to mutate in gruesome eldritch ways. Strangely, years before the tragedy, a priest of the Illuminated Church and other like-minded individuals each experienced a celestial vision of the fallen star. After Veryne's destruction, the priest Charlotte Beauregard would continue having visions, her "celestial prophecies," forming the foundation of a new faith.
Starblessed Pilgrimage
Before a member can officially become accepted by the Absolution, they must perform a star-blessed pilgrimage. The member must wait until they are blessed with a vision showing where a chunk of a fallen star has landed. This fallen star is believed to be a gift from Luniwyn to collect. Unfortunately, the area around a fallen star is often dangerous from eldritch leakage cascading from the crystallized rock remains.
If the member can successfully retrieve their gift alone, they are found worthy and can undergo a medical procedure, inserting the gift into their body and fusing the fallen star to their life force. All Absolution, including Charlotte Beauregard, have completed their pilgrimage and have a shard of a fallen star inserted and hidden under their religious robes. The experience is spiritually transforming and physically empowering. Many who complete the pilgrimage find themselves healthier and, in some cases, have more mastery in tethering into the bond.
If a member is unsuccessful, they must wait for another vision and hope Luniwyn blesses them with a second chance. If the member dies while on their pilgrimage, they are mourned under the next full moon and then forgotten.
Absolution Tenets
- The gift from above will bolster us when the gods fall to darkness.
- Share the message of our faith only with those ready to believe.
- Material possessions hold no value if the world is lost to the void.
- Do not be misguided by the hypocrisy of mainstream religion.
Mortal Constellation
The Absolution believes thousands of followers must complete their pilgrimage for Erenel to have a chance against the coming void. Once they do, the fallen stars in each member will become bright with starlight, allowing for the creation of a mortal constellation, pushing The Null back into the black sea of nothingness and sparing Erenel.
