Cursed: 5E Class

Hiding in the alleyway shadows, the sickly dwarf does her best to remain hidden from the thugs, looking for an easy score. Realizing she’s been spotted, the dwarf stands and throws her cloak to the side, revealing runic markings branded on her skin. To the thug’s horror, the dwarf violently shifts into a demonic creature with leathery wings and jagged fangs, ready to immolate her would-be attackers in hellfire.   Using a disguise kit to hide his rotting flesh, the human cursed with graveborn makes his way into town, hoping to speak with an apothecary. In an instant, the town is besieged by gnoll marauders who easily overpower the part-time militia. Sensing his life is in danger, the human transforms, revealing his curse and becoming a large undead abomination with puss-covered knuckles and an octopus tentacle. As the gnolls approach, the human embraces his torment as his muscles expand, breaking old stitching and exposing decaying sinew.

Risk and Reward

The source of the Cursed power comes from the very thing that threatens to destroy it. As you shapeshift into a vile creation and customize it with unique monstrous mutations, remember the curse that provides your "gift" also decays your soul.   Power is not free, and the torment you willingly choose to inflict on yourself to enhance your transformation could lead to your demise. Do the ends justify the means? That is for the one Cursed to decide.

Creating a Cursed

When creating your Cursed character, there are two important considerations for your backstory. How did you become cursed? Did you willingly choose a curse in search of power, or were you a victim of luck and in the wrong place at the wrong time? Do those important in your character’s life know you are cursed? Are you ashamed and keep your curse a secret, or do you openly show what you truly are?   The Cursed class offers an enormous amount of ways to customize your Vile Shifts (transformation) appearance. What does your Vile Shift look like? Consider your subclass when describing your appearance, and feel free to change its look over time as you grow in power and obtain more mutations.
  • Are you a simple werewolf with a few battle scars?
  • An undead abomination with vampire canines?
  • Maybe a large batlike demon with wings that leave trails of ember and ash?

  • The choice is yours!
