Northland Equipment Expanded

Expanding Mundane Equipment
As we further explore the many unique Erenel Kingdoms, equipment options, armor, and weapon offerings will grow! The intention is to provide a variety of new and exciting items, not overshadow equipment already in-game.   New weapon and armor properties are available with the ultimate goal of adding diversity to your table.   As a Dungeon Master, feel free to allow the provided options without unique properties if you wish. However, all item properties are designed to adhere to the design philosophy of 5E and have been playtested.

The blacksmiths, woodcarvers, and traders found in the Northlands craft their native weapons and armor primarily from the natural resource Black Ice. Ice in name only, Black Ice is a hardened stone that appears fragile and easily manipulated until forged. Thanks to the ease of sculpting the stone, crafters can conveniently shape the stone in exciting and deadly ways.   Northlanders also wield a handful of unique weapons, which can typically be purchased at any blacksmith shop. Caelian Waraxes are common amongst elite Caelian warriors, although the Claymore has seen a rise in popularity as of late. Most Northlanders, carry a seax with them at all times and hunt with finely crafted Yew Longbows, decorated to fit the hunter's personality.

Rules to Remember

With the introduction of new weapon and armor properties, a friendly clarification and reminder on specific rules.
  • You can benefit from only one shield a time.
  • Bleed does not take effect if you only damage temporary hit points.

Weapons

Caelian Waraxe

Favored weapon of the Caelian, this waraxe is much heavier than a greataxe, allowing the wielder to swing recklessly for maximum impact. When wielding this weapon, you may attack recklessly, decreasing your attack roll by 1d4 and adding 1d4 to the damage dealt.

Claymore

A more defensive weapon thanks to the basket hilt, the Claymore is favored among defensive two-handed specialists. While wielding the Claymore with two hands and no shield, gain a +1 bonus to your armor class.

Francisca Axe

A throwing axe with a distinct arch shaped head, widening toward the edge, allows for deep gashes on impact.

Seax

Crafted from Black Ice, the Seax is a light single edged blade able to either pierce or slash an enemy. Typically worn horizontally in a scabbard on the belt, the Seax is a favored second weapon or most Northlanders.

Yew Longbow

A larger and more durable longbow made from Yew, the Yew Longbow allows the wielder more tension during draw.

Armor and Shields

Chain Hauberk

Lighter than chain mail, chain hauberk provides ample protection while not covering the arms and legs for mobility.

Gambeson

Common among Northlanders, this padded wool helps keep the wearer warm in the frigid north.

Thick Hide

Crafted from the hides of wolves, bears, and other great beasts in the North, Thick Hide provides protection with added flair.

Round Shield

Favored for its mobility, the Round Shield is strapped to the forearm by leather straps. You may still use your hand to perform somatic spells or wield a light melee weapon.

Special Property

Bleed

After successfully dealing damage to the hit points of a creature that has blood, apply 1 stack of the bleed condition. For each stack of the bleed condition, the bleeding creature takes 1 damage at the start of their turn. The bleed condition can stack up to a total of (5) stacks.   Multiple bleed conditions cannot be placed on the same target, but stack together. All stacks are removed when the bleeding target receives any healing, or after a successful Medicine skill check.   Medicine skill check DC = 8 + total bleed stacks.
