Pharaoh Mar-Re
Forgotten Pharaoh of the Burning Sands
I am Mar-Re, son of Takosh-Re. The cursed figure you see before you is but my shadow, which has walked these lands for time uncounted in search of men and women of skill, to plead for their aid.
In my time I was Pharaoh of this land. Then, the land was green and beautiful, blessed by the god of the above with a wondrous spring giving life to our land and nurturing our crops. Yet robbers raided the tombs of my forefathers and took from them tokens of their passage into the lands of the dead, thus keeping them from their reward after life. I swore that at all costs I would not fall prey to their evil deeds.
So it was that I made mighty and terrible war upon my neighbors, plundering their lands of wealth for my own passage. I did enter a contract with a great Djinn to work a mighty wonder and upon the sweat and blood of my people, I did build a theft-proof tomb.
My people turned against me with bitter hatred. I not only robbed our borderlands but taxed heavily my own people and so took from them their wealth. They rose up in anger, demanding their gold and gems, their lives and freedom.
I cursed them all saying
"By my ruling staff and the Star Gem of Takosh-Re, I curse you. Threaten not my life or the great spring which gives our land life will stop. As the river slows and dies so shall this land wither into nothing. This do I swear on the mighty Davata. From a sea of upraised fists before me rose one with a spear. The spear found my heart and so the wondrous spring, gift by the god of the above, stopped its flow. In death, my spirit happily approached my great pyramid. But Davata stopped my spirit from entering the tomb, for he said
“Your monument to life was to be the benefit you brought to the people under your stewardship, not this building of stone. As you looked only at your death in life, so shall you look only to your life in death. I am bound to fulfill your curse but I do curse you as well. Mar-Re you shall not enter this tomb until another mortal soul does invade this place, taking your staff of ruling and the Star Gem of Takosh-Re from your theft proof tomb.”Uncounted seasons have passed and my kingdom is now hidden beneath these desert lands. Nothing remains save for my tomb which stands now as then, untouched. Though many have tried to plunder my wealth, none have succeeded and I am forbidden passage until someone succeeds. I beg of you, steal the treasures of my tomb and release me.
