Public Services

There are many types of services that are offered publicly to the people of Nisumari. These services are regularly accepted trades throughout the empires.

Pack Goblin

Trained to serve and carry large amounts of goods. They can carry as much, if not more than a mule, but take up less space. They can fetch things for their employee and collect specifics while traveling.

Tell them to pick up stones and they will return with their four times the size backpack full. They are trustworthy, loyal companions who will carry your crap through nearly anything. Treat them right, feed and shelter them and they will stay by your side for life. Treat them poorly and they will run off with all your crap, leaving you high and dry.

Pack goblins come in a few different colors: blood, green, albino, and blue. Blood pack goblins are the most inexpensive, as there is no guarantee that they won’t try to kill you in your sleep. Just remember, after the initial cost, you pay for them with food, shelter and, above all else, protection.

A pack goblin will not grab a weapon and run into combat with you. You will most likely find them hiding in the most secure place they can find until the danger is gone.

A typical pack goblin stands about three feet tall and weighs roughly twenty pounds; when their packs are empty. They carry a large backpack and know how to pack it just right.

In order to gain the perks of the pack goblins, they must be within five feet of their owner. They are connected to their owner and use the owner’s instincts when needed. Skill checks are simply 1d10+2, but their skill checks can be chained. They do not have any form of attack, as they do not know how to attack.

A pack goblin likes to work alone, so owners are only allowed to have one. If an owner has two goblins, they will fight and try to outmatch each other. They will even go as far as trying to set up the other one to have a fatal accident.

Please remember to name your pack goblin, it’s an honor for them to be named by their new owner.

Disclaimer

All pack goblins willingly volunteered for their service as a pack goblin. They have never been threatened or tricked into service and truly love their jobs. Except blood pack goblins, they were threatened, tricked and slightly tortured into being a pack goblin.

Albino Pack Goblin

These goblins are found in the Midway and have heightened hearing and smell. They can find items better than other pack goblins. When looking for a specific item, the albino pack goblin gives its owner a +1 to perception checks. They also cannot get lost underground.

Blood Pack Goblin

These savages have been trained to not eat their owners, but that has no guarantee. They are the most inexpensive pack goblins because there is a 25% chance they will either run off with your stuff or will try to eat you in your sleep.

Blue Pack Goblin

These goblins love the cold and water. They can keep your stuff dry while in water and can resist the cold. They give their owner a frost resistance when in cold environments.

Green Pack Goblin

The standard basic pack goblin, they are the most loyal and trusted of their kind. They know where to go for the best deals and can never get lost in a city. They also wake up early and make sure their owner has a freshly prepared breakfast every morning. Provided their owner supplies the ingredients. The green pack goblin gives its owner a +1 to bartering when buying items other than weapons and armor.

Personal Services

Messenger

A messenger is an individual who is paid to transport messages and small packages from one destination to another. An example would be to pay for the rooms you reside at and store items in back in your home city as your quest is taking longer than expected.

The cost of a messenger is based on the distance they must travel. The longer they must travel, the more room and board they will have to pay, hence the cost being per day.

Personal Servant

A personal servant is not a slave, but does almost any command you give. However, they will not fight or cause harm to themselves or others. You are paying them to help you with your daily tasks and chores. A personal servant is paid per day of service.

Bodyguard

You can hire a mercenary to protect you, and up to one other person you choose. They will keep watch, protect and risk their life for you for as long as they are getting paid.

Refer to the Mercenary section of the creature’s guidebook for stats on the bodyguard.

Rentals

Renting space can be helpful when involving having a city that is the character’s base of operations. Instead of constantly renting out rooms at an inn and not having any privacy or peace and quiet, you can rent a residential space and deck it out to your liking. Each rental space has a minimum square foot based on the style of rental. For example, the smallest sized apartment available is one hundred square feet.

All rental location prices are determined by the square foot. Therefore, the larger the area you require, the more expensive it will be. On top of the square foot, pricing amenities can be added that increase the price. Unless stated, all prices are based on monthly rental periods. Don’t forget to barter to try to get a better deal.

Commercial Rental Properties

Selling the things you make or collect in your campaign to vendors is not the only option - you can also rent a commercial property to sell them. See the Crafting chapter for more information about commercial rentals.

Residential Rentals

*See description

Most settlements—whether it is a town, city, metropolis, or other—doesn’t allow residential properties to be used for commercial needs. Residential tenants who use spaces for commercial purposes may be evicted without warning by landlords.

Apartment

This style of living space comes in multiple sizes, with the smallest and most inexpensive being a single room to the largest and most expensive suites. They all come standard with a fireplace for warmth and cooking. The suites have their own latrines and bathing rooms.

House

Renting a house is a step up from an apartment, as you are not sharing walls with neighbors. Nor are you having to listen to the neighbor’s baby crying all night or hearing the ten-millionth argument about how they think egg wine is better than cider. However, having that peace of mind comes at a cost, a much higher monthly cost, that is. Houses are surrounded by a small yard and either a stone or thatched fence.

Stack House

This style of house is less expensive compared to a standard house. The reason its monthly cost is less is that they are built directly next to each other, which doesn’t allow for as much privacy or quiet space. You might not share a wall with your neighbors, but you share a small five-foot alley with them.

Stack houses are two-story buildings that typically have the common areas on the first floor and the bedrooms on the second. The more luxurious ones have two latrines each on their own floor). They do not have yards or open space around the building and are typically built closer to commercial areas in major cities. The more successful artisans who don’t want to commute rent stack houses for an easy commute to their shops.

Manor

A manor is an extremely large luxurious house with multiple multipurpose rooms, in addition to at least five bedrooms. It comes with servant quarters, a full kitchen and dining room, plus a garden and privacy fence (typically made of stone and metal) with a locked gate. All manors automatically have four latrine amenities added to their cost.

Suite

A suite is a luxury apartment made up of multiple rooms that can be as large as an entire floor of the building. They come fully furnished and have servant available for an additional charge (see residential amenities).

Residential Amenities

Most residential rentals do not come with any furnishings except for manors and suites. When renting a place to live, it is possible to pay additional monthly (or daily) charges to have the place furnished with amenities.

Temple & Healer Services

Revive

This service prevents a dying person from permanent death. The dying person is revived with ten health. This service saves one person per price listed.

Transportation Services

Traveling using the many means within the world can be very helpful should you need to get to a place faster than walking.

The cost of each service is based on traveling from one major city to another. Each major city stop is one charge. So, if you are traveling through multiple cities, the cost is multiplied by how many cities you pass through, including your final stop.

The travel time listed is the average time a direct route takes per type of transportation service. These times vary depending on weather and other dangers along their routes.

Vehicle Services

The price when traveling from a small town to a major city is 10% less than the listed cost as you are not traveling as far.

Caravan

Then, traveling by caravan, you are joining a merchant or other group of wagons heading toward your destination. If you can convince the caravan leader of your skills as a fighter, you can be hired as a caravan guard and not have to pay. The guard's wages are per day and are equal to the cost of being a passenger.

Private Carriage

A private carriage is used when you want to take your time traveling in privacy. Private Carriages are used to only travel between two major cities. They are not designed for long journeys through multiple cities. The travel time is based on taking your time when traveling. However, if you are rushed, you can pay triple the cost to shorten the time by two days.

Public Carriage

A public carriage is cheaper than a privacy carriage but is full of other passengers. Just like private carriages, public carriages are only used to travel between two major cities. They are not designed for long journeys through multiple cities.

Steam Carriage

A standard carriage that uses steam power instead of animal power. It can travel faster and farther between refueling compared to an animal drawn carriage. These carriages are used in the same fashion as private carriages, as the travel time can be shortened by one day if you pay double the cost.

Maritime Services

Seafaring ships are used to transport passengers and merchandise over large bodies of water. This is the main method of traveling between continents unless you have the diplomacy and coin to convince an AGE Vessel captain for a ride. The pricing is per major port city and typically ships do not stop at smaller settlements along the way. There are two different tickets for passenger ships, coach and first class. First class provides access to the dinner hall and lounge. Those with coach are not allowed in first class areas.

Travel times for ships are difficult to determine because of the larger distance they can travel compared to trains. However, if staying on the same continent, travel time between major ports varies from three to five days.

Train Services

Trains briefly stop at smaller towns along their route, unlike seafaring ships. The price when traveling from a small town to a major city is 10% less than the listed cost as you are not traveling as far.

There are two types of tickets depending on how luxurious you want to travel: coach or first class. First class provides access to a dining and tavern cars with one free meal a day. Coach is not allowed in the upper-class cars.

Passenger trains do not allow animals or vehicles, but a cargo train can be persuaded to give rides at double the coach price per passenger, vehicle, and animal.

Grimslarian Express

These trains are the standard style used throughout the world. While they are not as fast as the Royapo Rail trains their ticket, prices are less expensive.

Royapo Rail Pass

This pass comes in two different passes: the RR Coach and RR First. Each pass provides ten tickets for the price of eight. The tickets are only for the Royapo standard trains and cannot be used on their speed trains. Each time the pass is used, it is stamped to indicate how many remaining tickets are left. The standard one ticket per major city still applies.

Royapo Standard Train

These trains use steam power supplies but have been designed with increased efficiency to increase its speed. It is not as fast as their Speed Trains, but they are still faster than the competition. The standard trains differ from the speed trains in that they stop at towns between major cities.

Royapo Speed Train

Royapo Rail is known throughout the world for having the fastest trains. Speed Trains are faster because of crystal batteries and don't stop at small towns, making travel time shorter. However, their speed comes at an increased ticket cost.
