Girith Broadbane

First Lord of Gwendor, Overseer of the Gwendorian Fleet, Hero of the Low Moors Girith Broadbane

"His stern features narrow as he realises the implications of the decree set before him- its parched edges curling with time as he does nothing but sit. As the council around him murmur among themselves, Girith holds their highest member in a firm, undaunted gaze while his thoughts form, and the advisor struggles to meet the hard-set crystal eyes with his own. After 2 long hours spent in the high vaulted hall, the crisp silence of apprehension remains, broken only by the clinking of Girith's plate-clad feet echoing around the cloisters beside the faint chinking of fine mail as the Lord paces, even though his maimed left leg now drags dormant below him."
  • born after the Cairn Wars
  • rises to local fame after saving a group from a barn fire
  • takes part in the expedition north
  • sees the strengths of a united human people
  • returns to the Twelvellian Basin with connections with the Gwerrith Clan
  • rises in their circles, and leads the assault on Dorröhaven
  • using the momentum of this victory, Girith declares- with Gwerrith's support- a crusade to unite all Beornin people
  • this crusade outlines Gwendorian territory as from the west coast, to the Low Moors of the Wandering Territories (West to East), and from the Northfolds to the southern edge of Fellthorn (North to South).
  • The final conquests surrounding Fellthorn were not overseen by Girith directly, as he returned to Lord's Redoubt to establish a Council and government. By this point, he's around 35, and relative peace lasts until he's in his 50's. By this time, territory has been cemented under new Gwerrithian masters, and the clan-based High Council begins to plot the Lord's removal.    In an effort to prove to his Council that he remained in control, Girith joins a battle in the Low Moors, being injured in the process (his leg). This injury put paid to any more military deployments, and confined the Lord to administrative duties.

    The Father of Gwendor
"may no longer be able to stand before you, but amongst this council I see no ailment but cowardice that would keep you to your seats" -addressing the High Council, who refused to stand on his arrival, in his last living year.     "Let the gods take me before treachery does, for I fear only they can save me from what shadows lurk in men" -supposedly said to his son, Gelid on his deathbed.
