Monannan Trakkus

"As one hand rests on thy sword,

The other rests on thy Oath,

May both be kept as well as the other,

In these pages are detailed the powers of Lord and Land,

I swear here that till death or madness,

I shall uphold whatever they detail,

I am loyal to the tome,

To the tome alone,

I shed myself of any allegiance that came before,

House, Family, Creed,

They are nothing set against the duty of State."

The Monannan Trakkus is the oath taken by all Lord's Paladins during their induction into the order. It outlines their role as both keepers of the Lord's Laws, but also as the Houses guardians against tyranny. Their role is to act in the Lord's interests when concerning the people, but to uphold the power-sharing structure of the Houses which has become engrained in Gwendorian Law when and if the Lord's personal power extends in ways that upset the Seat's accountability to the Houses. However, any kind of allegiance to a House from any Paladin could also upset the balance, so the order must maintain its nature as a purely apolitical entity, commited to the enforcement of existing laws, and the personal protection of the Lord from common rebellion. It is not their role to expressly quell rebellion, but to act in the Lord's stead when his martial services would be required.
