The Lurk and Wash

A sprawling district that crosses the threshold of the outer wall, but the term "Lurk" has come to encompass any nondescript slums that have sprung up within the city walls, its inhabitants range from beggars and recent immigrants to the squalid labourers who work in the kilns in Rubbledon and the quarries further south. Structures beyond the city walls are called "The Wash" in a reference to the historic flood plains they've been built on, and these house almost exclusively seasonal ley farmers and travelling workers to whom a permanent residence would be too much of an investment.   It is here that you'll find thieves and murderers mingling with common folk, as brands or other corporal punishments are less stigmatised and more common. The Lurk and Wash therefore provide refuge for those escaping a whole manner of enemies: debt collectors, the city guard or a mercenary.
