Cause of Death

Interview with Valan Eromin

What is the leading cause of death?
You sit across a worn oak table from a figure, their hood drawn up and bladed raven insignia prominently clasping their cloak around their shoulders. You can see their face, though they appear careful to ensure no one else can. They lean forward slightly at the question.

yin nva aj?

Are you referring to for me, personally, or in general, because those are very different answers. They smile.   The most obvious cause of death in the majority of the world is war. All-consuming, never-ending war. None of the people in charge have the courage to grow their hair out, so to speak. They refuse to extend an olive branch, yet they do not suffer the consequences of their angels without the Night Angels stepping up.   They gesture around the space, where groups of people-- teenagers-- are clustered together around dim torchlight. Their laughs fill the room.   Does anyone here appear particularly.... well-traveled? They're young, they're still bright-eyed and they should have a whole future ahead of them. Unfortunately, they were born here, like most people are.   Their smile fades.   They'll all be deployed soon. Most of them appear to be of age. Maybe some of them will get lucky, though, and make it through their first battles. If they're really lucky, they've make it another half century and be given the option to retire. No one chooses to retire, though. You can't abandon these kids once you see the hell they go through.   They take a drink and give a small smile.   What a grim topic to bring up. How about we play a game instead?
