Messenger

Messengers across Estya are often undervalued, underpaid, and overworked, with few exceptions (see Messenger of the Supreme)

Career

Qualifications

Becoming a messenger for a major city district is a simple matter of going to the local delivery hub and telling them you want to join. For those looking to move up in the ranks, a knowledge of handling the various horses of Estya and other animals is paramount. Most noble families are willing to train a good messenger that is lacking the necessary skills, though, and as such, most messengers end up as noble messengers.   For the few already trained and willing to venture into war zones and behind enemy lines, Military Corespondence Messengers are highly paid, highly trained, and always in demand.

Career Progression

Most messengers don't progress far within their careers, especially if they lack experience handling horses or carts of packages, however a select few can earn the privilege of traversing Estya, and fewer still may get to cross enemy lines.

Payment & Reimbursement

Most messengers are paid a commission for each letter they deliver, however it typically amounts to a few copper pieces for a letter and a silver piece for a package.

Other Benefits

Most messengers begin the career out of a need of income and a fleeting hope they'll rise through the ranks to become the personal messenger for a noble, at which point the pay becomes remotely livable.
