Tale of Shadow
Around the height of the Folatia Empire, the leaders of the empire spoke to a fortune teller searching for a prophecy regarding their empire and Estya as a whole. While the sorceress did not offer any insight into the future of the Folatia, she told a tale of a great darkness overtaking Estya and stamping out the most powerful source of light to ever walk the world.
The leaders were quick to dismiss her warnings as insignificant, as they had seen the power of their armies firsthand, and that they would be quick to stamp out any such threat to their supremacy.
The Battle of Yna ocurred shortly after this fortune telling, and the empire collapsed a few years later. There is debate among scholars about whether or not the Battle of Yna and death of Valan Eromin was what the prophecy was referring to.
Spread
Most of Estya is aware of the prophecy, as it quickly spread across the Folatia Empire before its collapse. Spies for the Arborlich brought the prophecy into Arborlichian borders.
Variations & Mutation
Across Western Estya, the prophecy mutated to specify that the darkness will stamp out the "last light" to walk the world, as opposed to the "most powerful" light. The Arborlich have also contrued the myth to be referring to their own conquest over Estya, as they considered the Folatia, and by extention the Ebonblade and Darkforge their sworn enemies.
In Art
Folatia-era artwork, around the height of the empire, often depicts the leadership of the empire stamping out this shadowed threat prophesized to sweep across Estya. More modern artwork about the prophecy depicts the Folatia being consumed by this threat, as well as drowning in their own arrogance and greed.
