Riverpuddle
Riverpuddle was originally a small subsistence settlement of no particular note or renown along the banks of Little Selen River. However, a sudden and overwhelming flood of glacial meltwater caused the Little Selen to overflow its banks and nearly wash the town away. The population of Riverpuddle, being of a hardy stock, set about adapting to their new home. Within scant few weeks, spiderwebs of wooden pathways soon covered the now-flooded town and ramshackle wooden houses were constructed.
Now, several decades later, the town is now a thriving city positioned prominently along one of the main aquatic thoroughfares of the Coracre Republic. What were originally a series of barely serviceable wooden plankways are now finely crafted walkways bordering watery “streets” where gondolas transport well-dressed citizens to and fro. The crudely constructed wooden shacks have given way to densely packed stone and mortar buildings of the finest make built atop of islands of packed earth and shored with thousands of wooden pilings. Where once it was a settlement barely scraping by, it is now a city where one could find nearly anything one desires… for the right price, of course.
Architecture
Riverpuddle is a trio of large, man-made islands formed out of mounds of sentiment and earth with structural support provided by hundreds of thousands of wooden pilings driven into them. The islands are undergoing constant repair and additions as the city grows, and the style and form of the buildings vary depending on which of the six districts one happens to be in.
