Kalaya

A seaside health resort

Located on the southern coast of Lura, the seaside town of Kalaya was founded just over two centuries ago as a health resort for the country's nobility. It has long been believed in Lura that fresh sea air is good for the body, especially the lungs and heart, but never before had there been a destination dedicated to this fact. Kalaya is situated in the perfect place for it, on a stretch of coast lined with sandy beaches and sheltered by hills.   The town itself is surrounded by a wall on three sides, the other side open to the Jade Sea. There are only two gates, which are constantly guarded. People are only allowed into the town if they are nobility or if they display a valid work pass. The only people who are allowed to reside in the town that are not nobility are owners of guest houses or other such businesses; the majority of the town's workforce travel in from nearby towns and villages. Owners of businesses must renew their license each year to be allowed to continue operating in Kalaya. Many noble families maintain a second home in Kalaya, where they reside for a month or so every year.   As well as the natural health benefits of the sea, the town hosts a myriad of entertainment options, including two theatres, several gambling parlours, restaurants, and a variety of drinking and smoking houses. Some of the finest cuisine in Lura can be sampled in Kalaya.

Classic tourist destination! The rich get to enjoy the luxuries, while those providing the luxuries have to go sleep somewhere else ;P
