Merfolk of the warming deeps

The Tchwachi merfolk live in the warm, deep waters surrounding the island of Salahor. The waters are unusually clear, letting the sunlight filter down deeper, whilst geothermal vents seep heat from beneath the sands. The Tchwachi build large homes out of living corals and live in multi-generational households with their relatives.   The Tchwachi have a close relationship with the Salahoran humans, with many members of both groups being bilingual. Each year, the two peoples have a festival of friendship celebrating this bond, with giant bonfires built on floating rafts.
