Badges

The Evenacht is filled with centuries upon centuries of spirits. This makes for tense living in many places, for older spirits may not like the cultural direction others took long after their death. Natives who resent the presence of the dead in the first place can wreak havoc on communities and travelers.   Because of the animosity, organizations provide badges of safe passage for those on official business. Not only does this keep their representatives safe, it denotes those who work for the same place.   Government institutions and religious affiliates wear badges that not only grant them safe passage but allow them into hostile areas without fear of attack. Much of this wariness to harm badge wearers comes from a fear of syimlin punishments for those who ignore the hospitality associated with badges. While the syimlin are considered a relaxed, easy-going bunch, when one is provoked, woe be to the being who instigated them.   Badges consist of the organization's symbol and colors. The symbols can be quite elaborate, especially if it represents a very ancient population that continuously adds to it.

Finders

Finders have three badges. These badges guarantee Finders access to otherwise off-limits habitations and wilderness areas, and grants them a certain amount of local help in their Search endeavors. Since the Finders are considered a sacred organization, nearly all Evenacht inhabitants respect this badge.

The smaller badge with an eye in the center represents acolytes. This is the most recognizable Finder badge throughout the Evenacht.
The smaller badge with an owlish look represents Finders who have progressed beyond the acolyte stage, but who do not have the advanced Mental Touch knowledge to reach sage status.
The large Finder badge is reserved for sages and those granted special status by the Hallowed Collective. They are revered and hated, simultaneously.

Ga Son Followers

Ga Son, the Syimlin of the Sun, is second only to Erse Parr in importance among the Keel pantheon. The Evenacht sun, while not the blazing affair of the living celestial body, provides a soft, sensuous illumination--enough so plants grow and there is a noticeable difference between day and night.   While the living have a complete sun on a blue background that they hail, the Evenacht prefers one sinking into the sunset--a representation of dying.   This is Vantra's sun badge. The richer colors, combined with the jewels, mean it once belonged to a high-ranking Sun priest--but it's hers now.

Hallowed Collective

The Hallowed Collective's badge is an ancient symbol of the Keel. The roots of the plant grow long and strong when cared for by a careful hand. The Collective's mindset is similar, and since Keels first formed the organization, the link makes sense.   Most other cultures believe the symbol ugly, and since the badge is large, an eyesore. But no one mistakes a Hallowed Collective representative when they wear one (the badge takes up the entire shoulder/left chest at full size).   The Collective believes themselves sanctioned by Death herself, and will threaten any who does not recognize the badge with the connection. In general, the Evenacht is careful around the Collective's agents, not because they believe they do important work, but because they so often misuse their power.
