2020: Plans For Expedition Demeter In The New Year

You don't have to read this, you know?

Happy new year to you all and I hope it was a good one. So, I've been sitting back and reflecting on the last year. Per tradition, i've taking Janruary off. I've progressed so much and am now at 362790 words and counting. I'd like to thank you all, once again. I could never accomplish this feat without your help and support. At this point, I think its time to slow down on the world building for Expedition Demeter and focus on getting the 1st draft of the RPG taken care of. This will be a high priority for the new year. I want to do playtests fairly soon and get the ball rolling with a playable campaign to begin the journey of the expedition. The only world building you will see for a while will include a few competition entries, spruced up articles with new RPG Elements. Most of my efforts will be focused elsewhere where world building is concerned.

The Web

If you didn't already know, I have another world called The Web. It's my favorite of all my worlds, and happens to be the setting for my first novel, which is nearing completion. Getting this novel written and hopefully published is my primary goal for the year. While the RPG elements of both The Web and Expedition Demeter sit as a close second, the world building will be mostly done in The Web when I do end up writing it. I'd love for you to go and check it out if you have the time.

Here There Be Monsters...

Goals for 2020

  • Continue writing with the momentum I've been able to sustain, which sits at roughly 3000 words a day as the minimum.
  • Focus on writing the novel, writing at least one scene a week on top of the other goals to meet.
  • Finalize the written rules for the game system used in my settings through simplified articles with examples.
  • Use those rules to create the character sheet prototypes.
  • Create the rpg assets for character trees.
  • Create tables and proper lists for items and equipment.
  • Write campaigns for both settings to start playtesting.
  • World build for the web as often as possible with the writing time I have left.
  • I have a webcam, it is time to put it to use and make the videos a select few of you were asking for!

Playtests!

If you would like to playtest either Expedition Demeter or The Web, send me a dm on discord. Be sure to give me a time table where you will be available and the time zone you're in, and it doesn't hurt to give me an idea of your character as well. The Playtest rulebook is near completion, and I will need players who would love a chance to break the system! Currently, my goal is to begin playtests in early march, if all is well by then, though this is subject to change.

Passive Goals

The following are still goals I'm working on but they are not priorities. I'll work on them slowly.

  • Economy in the world
  • The use of mind altering substances around the world (tobacco and alcohol primarily)
  • Warfare in The World
  • Focusing on the other regions of the world and branching out of Estoya, which is near completion.
  • A deeper discussion on the races of the world as well as their ethnic groups and sub-races.
  • Pantheons and gods
  • Detailed world history and expedition timelines
  • Utilize the Heroes feature for characters
  • Connecting articles further and editing current articles, including tags, excerpts, etc to make it easier to search for key terms.
  • Organize art into galleries, slowly begin removing art and planting my own/commissioned artwork
  • Make the article headers, containers, tables related to the RPG
  • An inspiration from the great Tikal of Swordsfall includes a "TL;DR" sheet to describe key elements easily such as archetypes, Arcane Genres, and the like

General Ideas

  • Videos:
I don't think i'm much qualified to make guides on world-building, but due to being asked almost weekly how I go about my brand of world-building, how I come up with ideas, write my articles, format, ETC. I've been contemplating making videos (not streaming) on the subject from my perspective. Articles would be a bit too much of a labor to write about, and sift through for the reader IMHO. The following are some general topics id love to do, and stem from the most common questions I get asked from WA, Twitter, Reddit, and Discord. Again, i'm not sure I'm even sure it would gain any traction, but it'd be nice to have the resource to give to those who ask instead of just spouting off and answering the same questions with FAR TOO MUCH detail.

    1. How I worldbuild ("specifically")
    2. Sources of inspiration/knowledge (resources)
    3. In depth formatting and such on WA
    4. Handling Characters
    5. Handling Prose
    6. Tackling writer's block and other writing pitfalls
    7. Discussion of genres and specific topics
    8. Writing tips/tricks for speed
    9. Outlining/planning

And one more thing...

Now if you have made it this far, please do take a moment to comment on anything you have something to say about. I'd love to hear from you personally about what I should improve on or things you'd like to see. My writing is never perfect, and likely never will be, but that doesn't stop me from wanting to perfect it. You are welcome to comment below, or find me on discord, Username: Dylon|Expedition Demeter#2858 Thank you for reading, and I do hope to hear from you!

Thank You! Keep Being Amazing!

This is an awesome plan for the upcoming event! Might have to make my own plan for World Ember.

Thank you! Last year was intense, so I wanted to make sure I had a plan! I recommend it wholeheartedly!

So are you using an existing RPG or making one from scratch?

I created my own using d20 for most mechanics and speeding up/streamlining combat with playing cards. It was a little experiment I tried and it was surprisingly fun.

now THAT sounds interesting.

Oooo thank ya. The ruleset articles are still being done, but so far, combat is so quick, players refuse to stack dice and look at their phones. It feels as fast pace as it should. keep an eye out. I ld love to hear your thoughts on it.

[You have] another world called The Web. It's my favorite of all my worlds
I mean. I can't say I disagree. The Web is an awesome setting.   I am also aware that this comment is... Right about a year late. But, you know. I decided to check out your other setting a bit more since I've only looked at the Web and the Void Between.   I hope you do another article like this in preparation for 2021 and I'd love to see it done as a Journal Entry making use of that new feature instead of articles. That'd be a cool way to show off Dimi's new features.   One last thing, which is, of course, a CSS thing. So predicable, I am. Anyway, I'm not sure how I feel about the way that you did your copyright section. It really blends into the background and falls of the page. The gap between page and metadata, firstly, is a bit bothersome. Additionally, the pointed lack of a gap between the header credit(the background of which isn't ideal) is also not great. Anyway, just stopping by to check out this world for a minute.
