Irlis Berada, Baroness Falthar - Faalkaran
Irlis Berada rules over the northwestern coast of Falkaar from Westwatch Seahold, a well-nigh impregnable fortress that is home to a good portion of the Falkaaran Navy and most of its pirate hunters. Falthar is the last bastion of civilization on Isarshael’s coastline for three thousand miles.
The Baroness possesses a steady and measured demeanor but getting on her bad side is an ill-conceived idea. She guards her and her family’s prerogatives fiercely and has no time to suffer the meddling of landlubbers in her affairs. Irlis, like all the Berada’s before her, loves the sea. She takes any excuse to be aboard her personal caravel, the Orva’s Glory, even holding court on its main deck at every opportunity.
Despite many lovers and suitors, the Baroness has never taken a husband, always claiming with a laugh that ships with two captains are ill-sailed. She sought and won a royal dispensation elevating her bastard daughter to be her heir, the father rumored to have died in a clash with the Marn Pirates.
Irlis is a superb swordswoman, although it has been a few years since she visited the floor of her bladeschool, let alone led a punitive raid herself. It is rumored among her court that before she feels the full onset of age, she will abdicate in favor of her daughter. Then she will take a small fleet around the north coast and attempt to settle with as many pirates and raiders as she can personally rather than pass of old age staring out to sea from one of Westwatch’s towers.
