Karyovul Bazgarihn - Kuzaarik
To the outside eye the Kuzaarik people are not an overly religious lot. Though it is widely known that they worship the Ga’al, the original nine pieces the Creator divided itself into, it is hard to detect signs of this worship in their everyday life. They no longer have temples to the Ga’al, whom they call Gosk, though in their storied past each of the seven principal Kuzaarik cities was the center of worship for one of the Gosk minus the Shroud and the Cage.
Now, after generations in the grip of the Long Way, that religious fervor that once was the hallmark of the seven city-states has waned until barely any perceptible public worship is left. It is commonly believed that the Gosk themselves have abandoned the Kuzaarik civilization and moved their attention to the races further south.
Kuzaarik now express their worship in their everyday activities. They consider hard work their duty to the Monolith, creativity their worship to the Hammer, and care for their families their devotion to the Hearth, who they call Gamoo.
Now living only in and around Kuzaarl, the Kuzaarik have no day they set aside for worship, and a temple rises into the sky though sits mostly empty; in which resides the High Intercessor, his priests, and the Baskryt, an ancient warrior-scholar class that serve almost exclusively to fight demons that invade the ever shrinking land of the Kuzaarik.
Currently Karyovul Bazgarihn is the High Intercessor of Kuzaarl. He has embraced his diminished and much changed roll with fervor and devotion, but spends much time studying the days when the High Intercessor’s role was the spiritual leader of his people.
Bazgarihn’s new role is mostly that of advisor. He is still considered the spiritual leader of his people, but the pomp and religious ceremony of his people is preserved only in the monthly festivals held in reverence to the Gosk.
The High King and the council turn to Bazgarihn when decisions must be made, hoping to gain the blessing of the Gosk as divined by the High Intercessor. In times Past this blessing was for sale, a tradition that some of the council seek to maintain despite Bazgarihn’s repeated refusal to be bought.
Because of his integrity the High King has come to rely on Bazgarihn as his first and foremost advisor. He is trusted with more and more knowledge and responsibility as his stature gains with the King and Council.
One of Bazgarihn’s most important roles is the head of those that hunt for demon incursions in the northern mountains. Bazgarihn has married the Ironhearts, magic using priests devoted to eradicating demons, to the Lightbringers, the ancient order of Scholar-Warriors that were once pledged to helping the other races of Faelon.
The Lightbringers were called back to Kuzaarl when the Long Way was introduced, and were called upon only in times of dire military need. Now, a Lightbringer accompanies an Ironheart at all times in matters of demon investigations and eradication.
If more than just an Ironheart and a Lightbringer are needed, the High Intercessor hand picks a Freeband to accompany them on their mission.
Unbeknownst to most, Bazgarihn also sends Freebands quietly into the mountains to recover religious artifacts of his people. He hopes one day to spark a revival of the Kuzaarik’s devotion to the Gosk, and usher in a new age of faith and devotion in the Northern Mountains.
