The Kahzkyt

The Kahzkyt - Those who make an opening or make a way - are a paramilitary organization that is controlled and supplied by the Resettlement Council. Their job is to patrol the wild places that once belonged to the Kuzaarik Confederation, set up small bases of operation, and look for opportunities to resettle communities and cities once lost to the Kuzaarik.   Kuzaarik from all different walks of life come to serve with the Kahzkyt. Some are adventurers looking for something different. Some are convicts that have been sentenced to do their penance on the frontiers of Kuzaarik control. Others are PDC spies that have infiltrated the Kahzkyt ranks and report back to their masters in Vinyabah Gohrahd.   The Kahzkyt have become a group synonymous with danger and adventure. In its early days, it was mostly populated with old men and women starting to buck the heavy hand of the Long Way and who yearned to be freer, which the Kahzkyt indeed offered.   Over time, however, they also became synonymous with the Priesthood’s demon hunting. The Kahzkyt often accompany an Ironheart and their Lightbringer partner, the famous Kuzaarik demon hunters under the purview of the Goskyr Zahpgati - the High Priest.   Groups of Kahzkyt, pejoratively called Zoohvyt - dreamers - by the PDC and much of Kuzaarik society, roam freely throughout the northern mountains. They establish footholds in the lost places of the Confederation such as forests, abandoned villages, and in the lost cities where they can.   Kahzkyt outposts can be found all over the old Confederation. Most are no more than a longhouse in the wilderness; a place where Kahzkyt can sleep safely, keep warm, and resupply. They are rarely manned except in areas where the Kahzkyt are actively patrolling and working. In some areas, these outposts act as jumping-off points for further exploration of areas long since bereft of any Kuzaarik presence, including the lost cities.   The Kahzkyt are directed to explore, map, and report back as much information as possible. That is their primary prerogative. The Resettlement Council thrives on information and can dispatch extra Kahzkyt to an area that seems promising. Individual Kahzkyt are instructed to keep a detailed journal of their exploits, and their leaders collate those journals into extensive reports and send them back regularly to the Council.   In the field an individual Kahzkyt is encouraged to dress and arm themselves as they please. They are also allowed to change weaponry as they feel necessary. There are times when they will be in the field alone, and at other times they will be part of a makeshift unit that patrols and fights together.   Kahzkyt are often accompanied by an Ironheart and a Lightbringer, or at the very least a Lightbringer. Where civilization has been absent for long periods of time, Demons often push into Faelon and establish footholds.   There are many places in the Northern Mountains that were unknown when the Kuzaarik Confederation was at its height. Now, with the Kuzaarik gathered at Vinyabah Gohrahd and the Khazkyt scattered thinly across the old Confederation, there are so many areas where demons and other creatures have built small empires. Kahzkyt patrols disrupt demon communities that may have been entrenched for generations, and expelling them is not easy.   The ultimate goal of the Kahzkyt is to find a foothold in the lost cities. In theory, once a foothold has been achieved, the military will be called in to take back the city and settlers will be sent. In practice, this has never been even tried.   Kahzkyt have established footholds in many old settlements and called for military aid, but the High Council has voted against it, citing one problem or another in their explanation. To the hard working and often dying Kahzkyt, this has been nothing short of heartbreaking and enraging.   Because the High Council and the Resettlement Council are locked in a political dance, the Resettlement Council has been recruiting heavily for the Kahzkyt. The Kuzaarik people grow more restless the older they get, so many older Kuzaarik hire on with the Resettlement Council to live out the last part of their lives doing something they believe will help bring back the glory ofthe Kuzaarik Confederation.
