The Seablade

Few know the actual name of the Seablade. Of those that do, most will not speak it, for it is a name associated with shame and betrayal. For others, they will not name it for fear, for the Seablade is not a nostalgic person, and when she leaves her past, she expects it to stay away.   She was born around Falthar, the third child in a wealthy seafaring family with ties to the military and mercantile.   From the beginning, she expected to join the Knight Mariner as her father had before her. Though she chafed at the idea, she did as she was expected to and joined up.   It wasn’t long before her defiance and freethinking got her into trouble. Though she was an excellent fighter, she was a terrible soldier. She was also light-fingered, having none of the usual societal mores about property and stealing. She was drummed out of the Knights Mariner and would have been executed for her crimes if it weren’t for her escaping and stealing a small ship. With a hand-picked crew, she sailed out of Falthar for parts unknown.   When next she was seen, it was at the helm of a pirate ship, and she went by the name of The Leviathan. She preyed upon merchant shipping all over the West coast of both Isarchael and Ryshael. Feared by both the Traazorites and the Falkaarans, The Leviathan was hunted without respite. She would boldly attack merchant and military vessels, proving herself the tactical equal of any ship’s captain that the Empire or Falkaar could send against her.   Before long, she commanded a fleet of pirated vessels and became the scourge of the Western Ocean. Finding and destroying her became a priority amongst the maritime governments, making it hard for her to operate and even harder to offload her pilfered goods. This forced her to deal with more unsavory characters, making both ends of her business dangerous.   With the many governments putting so many resources into eradicating her, it was only a matter of time before she was caught. A wing of Perakir found her mist-shrouded island base, and a fleet commanded by the Champion lady Lormouth was sent in to destroy her.   Vastly outnumbered, the Leviathan’s fleet was sent to the bottom of the sea, and she was captured.   The Leviathan was brought back to the town of her birth to be executed for her crimes. It was a public spectacle, as news of her exploits had gone far and wide. Many thousands gathered in the city center to watch the end of the dreaded pirate.   The noose was slung, and the lever pulled, but it wasn’t the rope’s end that stopped her fall. An arrow cut the cord just as she fell, and The Leviathan hit the ground. Panic erupted as soldiers around the scaffold began to fall. Several hooded figures shot from the crowd and dispatched the rest of the guards around The Leviathan even as they cut her loose. Their blades whirled and danced as they cut a path for the prisoner and her saviors to escape.   The wind blew just right, and one of the rescuer’s hoods blew back, revealing dark hair and a patch over one eye. The Black Rose had staged a rescue for The Leviathan. But why? And How?   The Leviathan now goes by the name of Seablade, and she serves the Black Rose and her bandits. Seablade still wears her Knight Mariner uniform as though to spit in the face of the Falkaaran authorities as she has been spotted all over southern Isarchael. Her relationship with the Black Rose has given her new opportunities to pilfer, and her legend continues to grow amongst the people and the Falkaaran government.
