Kalian
The Kalians are a people from south-western Kaabara. They populate the area between the Eni Belul desert and the hook of the Shiver Mountains.
Before the Fourth Reckoning, Kalians lived in separate tribes that competed for land and wealth. Small skirmishes between tribes were not uncommon. After the destruction of the Reckoning, survivors banded elected to unite. Each tribe's chieftain had an equal voice in the democratic republic. 250 years ago, the Kingdom of Tanish invaded the northern half of Kalitria and took it under their rule. The government went into exile to Shupilu and about half the Kalian people currently live in subjugation in Tanish.

Other names
Family names are the name of the tribe the person belongs to, passed down from the father in the case of intra-tribal marriages (these used to be unheard of before the confederacy but are increasingly common). Tribe names are all elements of nature, such as Sky, River, Treet, or Beach.
Culture
Major language groups and dialects
Traditionally, they are speakers of the Kal language. Though accents vary between communities, the language is fairly standard throughout the region. Since the Tanishite takeover of northern Kalitria, the language has been outlawed and children are growing up not learning it. Tanese is the dominant language in that region now.
Ideals
Courtship Ideals
Marriages are arranged by the parents, who go through a tribal elder as an intermediary. This typically happens when a prospective bride or groom is in their mid to late teens. Young people courting outside of pre-arranged matches is scandalous, although there are plenty of people who find it romantic so long as the relationship doesn't became physical and both parties break it off when their arranged marriage is announced.
Major organizations
The Kalian Confederation, a loosely organized union of the tribes. The Confederation is not a central government, but an agreement between local chieftains about sharing resources, maintain intra-region peace, and put up a unified front against external threats.
